FIL's heading for surgery today

Well, off to the hospital. My FIL who is 85 needs surgery on his vertabrae...to widen the opening in the bone for the spinal cord....he is in good spirits, and I hope will do fine. We have kept news from him about our BIL's (his middle daughters husband) recent diagnosis of lung cancer. With all the hurricane coverage has has been able to kep his mind occupied with that, which is good.

That sounds kind of like the surgery my MIL just had. Her's was to relieve pressure on her brain stem. If it helps, she had a pretty easy recovery.

Hope your FIL responds and recovers well to the surgery. Sounds like spinal stenosis? I've got the same thing and unfortunately will probably have to have the same surgery as your FIL at some point in my life. I had back surgery for a related problem in July...best decision I ever made. Hope the same is true for your FIL.

Well, I had to leave to get my kids...FIL surgery was moved back a bit. When I left he had been moved from pre-op to prep anesthesia...and waiting to enter OR. Yes, the surgery sounds just as you described. I wish I knew more, but my IL's are a secretive bunch....I just do what I can to be a part of the family, and DH had to work so this way I can keep him posted. I am hoping all is going well, I have no reason to think otherwise. Thanks for the well wishes!
