How many rolls of film should I bring on the cruise? Also, someone mentioned that they take portraits on board. Is it something that you have to dress up? Do they take pics of the family with Mickey Mouse like they do at the one shop at Downtown Disney? Thanks for any info! :D

I took 4 rolls of film for one week and that was enough.

They take pitcures all the time in the atrium. They are pitcures with the charaters and formal pitcures. This is actually a perfect opportunity to get a formal portrait of your family because you are dressed for dinner anyway and it is like getting a free sitting.

They also take pitcures of the kids playing on the beach on CC, in the kids club, charater breakfast and really the photographers show up everywhere.

When you have your pitcure taken at any time just stop by Shutters and it will be displayed on the wall for you to decide whether to purchase or not. You constantly hear on these boards of people spending much more than budgeted because the pitcures are so beautiful.

If you have children, purchase them a disposible camera to take thier own (put thier name on it with marker in case it is mis-placed.

I took about six rolls, and am glad I did, because we didn't manage to get into a lot of the ships photographers shots. In fact I bought the photo package and still had one punch left at the end of the week. There was a woman standing behind me in line trying to decide which photo to buy, because her DH ahd told her "only one", and I took one of them from her and "bought" it for her with my last punch. It was nice to send some PD her way :)

magiroux, how can you only take 4 rolls of film?? I am budgeting for 3 rolls a day on our upcoming cruise! So, I'll be packing about 21 rolls for our trip! I LOOOVE to take photos, especially of our 2 yr old dd, she's adorable!! ;)

I like getting my pictures developed at Shutters - that way I know if I caught a picture the way I wanted to or not. Often I take a picture just as good as the ship's photographer and choose not to purchase their similiar one. They do an excellent job in developing the shots also.

Plus you get a picture of the ship and a pin (for collectors).

I highly recommend that you visit Shutter's frequently because often there are wonderful pictures of your children that are taken at the Clubs/pool/Castaway Cay that you'd never get otherwise.

Just an FYI, the cost of onboard film developing goes against your customs declaration when you reenter the US.

Thanks for that info ducklite - that would just about KILL my customs limit! :p Well maybe not quite, but I'm one of those that will take a LOT of film. I'm of the shooting the film is less expensive than missing the shot school.

So for our 7 day cruise I'll probably pack about 35 rolls. If some of it travels back home with me that is ok too.

A little off the track here, but does anyone know if Shutters has the capabilities to take digital pictures off of a compact flash or smart media card? Although these can hold a lot of pictures, I want to make sure I have plenty of room.

They do not have that capability, but lots of people have suggested that they should. I took 2 cards with me, each holds about 500 images on the "better" setting. I ended up taking about 200 images total (I was deleting along the way). I brought the cable to attach my camera to the TV (it had the ports on the front) but I never actually did it!!

I took 10 rolls of film with me and used 7. I also bought the photo package and a bunch of the 8x10 portraits. I wayyyy overspent in Shutters and regretted buying the package. I took some pix that I did not really love just to get my 10.
