I read somewhere recently that with the addition of Disney PhotoPass thatt there will not be any more film developing at the parks. Does this hold true for the resorts as well? We have a very nice Nikon camera that we love to take pictures with. We were contmplating sending some photos on a postcard to friends and family with a WDW address stamped on them. It would take quite a bit of valuable vactation time to have them developed off-site. If there is no film developing at the resorts, where would the next best place be?

Laura's Dad,

My impression was that there was still developing at the parks, but rather than using tickets, you would use the photopass card. The additional benefit was that you could continue to have photos done once you arrived home from your trip via the web site.
Perhaps I'm wrong though.

It is my understanding that there is no longer any film developing on-site. I believe they have locations in the parks ( & soon the resorts, too) where you can download digital pics to a CD. With so many people going digital, it probably isn't cost effective for them to offer the picture developing any longer.

HTH! :D

Interesting. So at these locations, I wonder if you'll be able to add the effects (adding the Disney signature, etc.)to the photos like they used to?

I don't know the answer to your question but if it's ok, I'm going to chime in with a suggestion: Have you considered upgrading to a digital camera? Nowadays, you don't even need a computer to download the pics or organize them. Both Canon and HP(there could be others) produce printers where all you do is connect your camera directly to your printer and you can start printing your pics. Now, I don't expect you to bring a printer along on your vactaion(actually, you could because some of them are compact enough to do so). But, what you can do is buy a large memory card where it stores all of your photos so that when you get home, you can print them when you arrive. Just a suggestion...

We have considered buying a digital camcorder with the ability to shoot digital photos. We just love our Nikon and put quite a bit if money into it with extra lenses, etc. I just hate to give it up.

Oh, you must have a Nikon SLR as opposed to a point-and-shoot camera. This I can understand. I had a Canon A1 that I wouldn't give up until I recently bought my digital Rebel. I'm glad I made the switch. It's something to consider...

I bought one of these camera/camcorders for our trip, but i'm not sure what the quality of the pictures will be, makes me a little nervous! :headache:! anyone taken good pictures with one?

I checked into this subject awhile ago and here is what I got:
-There will be no standard film developing at parks or resorts anymore.
-The parks are adding machines (as last I checked I could find no list on who has it and where in the parks they are) which will burn your pics to a cd from your memory card.
-The resorts are supposed to be getting them.....but nobody knows when. I even called the Poly directly and they did not know.

I have been advised the following:
-Get more memory for my digital (with a standard SLR you will have to go off property for developing  ),
-Down load to a cd (then protect it w/ your life!),
-Bring a laptop to download pics,
-Get one of those cute printers to direct print.

I am doing to following:
-Getting more memory-however not one big card I was warned not to put all pics in one place, things can happen!
-I am also downloading to a cd to cover my bases, but not erasing my memory cards for fear of a cd cracking or what I heard was sometimes the burning does not take!!
-I am not packing and dragging my laptop and trying to hide it while we are at the parks, I want to simplify this trip!
-Those cute printers don't allow, red eye/zooming/cropping or editing pics like I do on my computer before I print.

So good luck w/ what you end up doing!! SLR's take wonderful pics, I love my digital but the pics are not as good as a good SLR's pics. I just hate lugging my SLR around a park. Look into a local film place that you could print regular pics, you wont find it in the parks or resorts! :sad2:

3 weeks 4 days till the POLY!!!!!

I did some research on this and found out that the quality of the pictures on these camcorders are not "print" quality. They are good for emails but do not have a high enough resolution for a good print. I went with the Canon XRL 70 which does not have the camera feature for this reason. I just got a 5 megapixel Sony Cybershot. They are both very compact and I get a good video and good pictures and didn't pay that much for either. HTH :flower1:

Unless Sony made a big jump in quality for mpegs, I wouldn't use it for video footage. I have the previous model DSC-P10. It takes awesome stills but for video, it's just ok. I would suggest having one camera for stills and a separate camera for videos.

EDIT: Sorry if this is getting off topic.

I have a sony digital camcorder trv350 it has the option for both, but the camera portion only takes 640 X 480 shots. So I would say if it were a moment that I didn't want to miss and didn't have my digital camera ready, I'd use it. Other wise a point and shoot is necessary. Perhaps they have made more strides, this is last years model I believe.
The neat thing about the trv350 is that it can use tape or memory to record video.
