Film and Magnets

DH's too cheap to buy a digital camera. I still have to tote around a big, old heavy thing. I just bought a travel bag which has magnets on the flap. I know from previous experience that magnets mess up your Disney passes but do they do anything to a roll of film?

I'm not sure about the magnets, but you can get a decent digital camera for under $100.

It looks like film costs around $4/roll. Go out and buy 25 rolls ($100) and a $100 digital camera. Then show them to your husband, and ask him which he would like you to return to the store - the film or the digital camera. Hopefully he'll let you keep the camera and return the film. The digital camera will have already paid for itself!

Also remind him that you'll save money on processing costs because you won't be paying to develop all the bad shots you don't see with a film camera until after they are developed.

Magnets do not affect film.

Magnets won't affect photographic film at all.

Light, heat, moisture, and exposure to x-rays will affect film, however, so be sure to keep your undeveloped rolls (whether they're shot or fresh) in a cool, dry, dark place for storage. And make absolutely sure that if you fly, you don't pack your film in checked bags, or it will be completely ruined. Pack it in carry-ons, in a plastic ziploc bag, and ask for hand inspection at the security checkpoint so that it won't go through the x-ray scanner.

And I agree with Kaybracon - pound on your DH until he gives in! For vacation photography, digital is IT. In fact, most pros have gone digital, too, except those who shoot high-end studio stuff.

Digital cameras are more expensive than film cameras, but once you buy one, and a few memory cards, you never have to buy film again.

The bag probably cost you more than a small Digital camera that would fit in your pocket. LOL
