Yet another chain "sucked" up by Macy's. I hate Macy's. I used to like them when they were more of a "higher end" store. Their customer "service" is horrible. There selection (clothes) stinks. Not all of us are a size 8 or 10 and 5'8"+. I had my Bridal registery with them when I got married 10 years ago, and they left such a bad "taste" in my mouth.

I really liked Filene's. I love the Karen Scott line. Good clothes with a nice size range at a decent price. The Macy's lines look like shriveled up dishrags after 2 washings.

Our local Filene's closed maybe 7-8 years ago. It was a shame, I loved them!

Boscov's is taking over some of the Kaufmann's stores they are closing in the Pittsburgh area. They are at malls where there already was a Macy's. Anyone ever shop at Boscov's?

I've never heard of Filene's, but it must be similar to Foley's here. They carry the Karen Scott stuff, and I think Macy's recently purchased them as well. I haven't seen any changes yet, though.

Macy's gobbled up our Foley's chain too. Pretty soon there will only be Macy's, WalMart and Target (PLEASE!).

up here they are CLOSING ALL THE FILENES even the one at downtown crossing which is a historical building I wonder what will go in there now
so many people are losing their jobs around here

Never heard of Filene's, but our Hecht's is going to turn into a Macy's this fall. I am not looking forward to it  .

Our "Bon" (formerly "Bon Marche) was bought out by Macy's as well.

I heard on the news last week, that the Filene's at Burlington Mall and Northshore mall will be Nordstroms. Don't know about the other ones.

I'm upset about it too, I also like the Karen Scott brand, I heard they were changing in September.

The same happened here to Burdines, Macy's bought them. I loved Burdines, I hate Macy's. I went to Macy's last week to spend what was left in a gc that I received for Christmas. I don't know who does the purchasing for this store, but the clothes were hideous, either too matronly or too young, nothing cute for us 40 somethings. I did like their dresses though.

After looking over the entire store, I found a shirt that I kinda liked. The girl that rang up my purchase looked like she was about to serve her "girls" on a platter.  There was more buldging flesh sticking out of her very low cut shirt than there was in her bra, no exaggeration. WTH? :crazy2: It was totally inappropriate. :crazy2:

We are losing our Filene's at the end of the month. It will be a Macy's.

:worried:

Our Hecht's here is turning into a Macy's soon.

I used to love Macy's back in the 1980's. Then I moved away and didn't have one close by anymore. Have they gone downhill that much?

I've only been to the Boscov's at the Granite Run Mall in Media, PA. I thought it was a nice enough store, wish we had one down here.

I remember Filene's when I lived in Maryland they had one in D.C. that I used to go to to on lunch breaks, great prices. I live in TN and they don't have them here. It's a shame they are closing. :(

Wow, that's too bad about Filene's. I can't believe even the Downtown Crossing location will be gone. :(

I have more or less boycotted Macy's since way back in the seventies. Back then (in NJ) we had Bamberger's as our great department store. Now Bambergers was related to Macy's even then but I guess Macy's looked at it as the poor stepchild. It always irked me that customers with Macy's charge cards could use their card at Bambergers but customers with Bams charge cards couldn't use theirs at Macy's. I know that sounds pretty silly but when Bambergers ultimately became a Macy's, I just refused to shop there!

I have! I really like Boscov's. I live in the sticks. Our closest mall is about 22 miles away - and it's a small one - there's a Sears, JC Penney's, Boscov's and Bon Ton.

Great! They will be moving into South Hills Village and Monroeville Mall, for those in the Pittsburgh area. The Kaufmanns there are having liquidation sales right now. The Macys at Ross Park Mall is closing and will reopen in the Kaufmanns location. Rumor has it that the old Macys location will become a Nordstrom there.

I was just at Ross Park Mall tonight. For a country girl - that place is a little overwhelming to me! :rotfl:

I like the Kaufmanns there - we even walked through there - but I didn't pick up on the liquidation sales. :( My DD, who is a student at Pitt, and I went to Disney Princess On Ice - and then hit Build-A-Bear, American Eagle, and Abercrombie at the mall.
