Second post of the day :)

Right now we have a 200 point AKV that has served us very well. Up until now we have been able to mostly get studios, a few times we got one bedrooms (which were nice) and with banking have been able to manage 2 bedroom stays (for bigger family trips) as well. When I first bought this one it was just me and my son who was around 6 years old at the time so the need for studios was perfect.

We are looking to get another contract. There are now 4 of us, my son is almost 14, there is my husband, and we have an almost 3 year old. We know that my son is getting to the age where we may want to allow him to bring a friend along so they can ride the fun rides while we entertain the little one and her princess loving/dumbo riding ways lol And we also want trips with grandparents while they are still wanting to come along.

How do you all figure out how many points you need with a new contract? Originally I was thinking another 150-200 points max would be enough but when I threw a spreadsheet together and figured out what some of these stays would look like we'd need between 250-300 points to do some of the trips we are currently limited with doing on our current AKV contract (because of the June UY). Is this how you all figure out how many points you need or is there an easier way to do this lol

And yes I looked at the points chart to come up with my numbers.

I feel like you are on the right track logic wise. Think about how many trips per year and where are you going to take them. Look at the points chart and see what number makes sense. Two things to consider though,
1) Are 1BR going to be needed at your son gets older?,
2) How much longer do you think your son will come with you to Disney?
I would be less concerned with #2 since if you bought more points than you ended up needed you could always sell that second contract in the future and likely get your money back from it.

Thanks! Seeing it on a spreadsheet really helps. No clue how much longer my son will want to go with us. He does enjoy Disney, but he may get tired of it pretty soon lol which is why we figured a bigger room so he can bring a friend would be better.

We've been through all the stages of childhood (friends were great!) and now our son is married in his early 30's. They are huge WDW fans, so we are now using more points than ever!

If you are unsure of what you will need down the road, I suggest buying a couple smaller contracts. If you can buy two smaller contracts from the same seller you can ask to have them bundled and pay about half in closing (we've managed to do it three times LOL). You can usually tell when "twin" listings appear on the same day. Today I saw a 25, 50 and 100 pop up same owner. This way you can unload one or two if you end up using less points. Good luck!

Today I saw some deals on resale but kept thinking on the same.. how many points are enough?

I currently have 500, it has given us fun long trips with extended family, but in the future it might turn into several weekend getaways, and having more points could become a splurge to be on larger suites or just be too many…

But if the resale prices still have room to go up, why not acting now?

How many points are enough?

I’m guessing nothing will ever be enough lol

I saw a crazy low price on a OKW 2042 contract online a few days ago. 270 points for 19,000 ($70pp). I thought to myself do I need 270 more points, of course not. Then I immediately emailed the broker and told them I wanted to buy them ASAP. Unfortunately they were already spoken for (and highly likely won’t pass ROFR, but it was worth a shot).
