So we are still going on Quantum. We changed the dates, but kept the same ship. FYI The NYE cruise on Quantum was the same $ as a DCL for the same dates, more when you add the drinks and dining extras to RCCL.
I know many on here say RCCL is less, I went looking and yes there is an earlier one so we opted for that to get that savings. Serious savings, so we can add on some perks.

So here are the ?s
I booked the dynamic dining for most nights and the shows. Hopefully this works out BUT on the chance I messed up and we wind up not making one of the reservations do we still get charged? Also if we wind up needing a late night snack do they do room service? If they do have Room Service is there a charge, and how does one tip?
Are you expected to tip at the kids clubs? DCL does not allow that (except a few calling/phone cards) but is it expected on RCCL?
What is also strange they let us book stuff and we aren't PIF? Suppose that is the way they do it. What if you had to cancel the cruise Hmmm.

TIA any input would be appreciated.

RCCL has 24-hour room service. There is a $4 charge between midnight and 5 a.m.; other times, it is free. We always tip the room service delivery person a couple bucks in cash.

The cafe promenade is also 24 hours, sorrento's pizza is usually open until 2 or 3 a.m., and the windjammer (the buffet) on quantum is supposed to have an all-night section with a grill and all-day/night breakfast food. you will not go hungry! :goodvibes i actually find it a lot easier to find a late-night snack on royal than on disney.

Royal lets you book excursions and specialty dining before you are paid in full. you pay when you book, but if you cancel, they refund you the charges.

Not sure about the kids' clubs (no kids here), and I've never cancelled a for-fee restaurant so i'm not sure about the cancellation policy. i vaguely recall it being 24 or 48 hours. that said, if you got sick or something, my gut feeling is that they would probably refund your money. also, if you're doing a cruise before new years, it will be one of the first cruises with dynamic dining, so i expect some leniency as people figure out the new system.

Thanks for the info... Yeah they have a lot of stuff still in question. It was quite interesting trying to get the switch and dinner ressies figured. So a lot is up in the air, like when I asked customer service how they will be booking the bumper cars and not a soul knew, so it will be an adventure for sure, and one we are willing to take :rotfl:

The Quantum of the Seas' maiden voyage will be in November 2014. For awhile, it will be the newest cruise ship around. So I can see RCI charging a premium for NYE.

When comparing cruise prices for the same itinerary, if you compare RCI's ships that are comparable in size or age to DCL's ships, RCI typically costs less.

what RCI ship is comparable in size to Dream and Fantasy? I've looked into royal though with so many DCL cruises booked not enough time to throw in RCI, and I'm going to Japan in November, so won't work again this year. Hopefully 2016.

I believe the Voyager Class ships (Voyager, Explorer, Navigator, Mariner, and Adventure) are closest in size to the Dream and Fantasy. They are a little bit bigger. I think Quantum will be a similar size as well.

Freedom class (Freedom, Liberty and Independence) are also about the same size; they are like newer Voyager class ships. Quantum will be about the same size, also - just a tad bit bigger.

I have no idea but I will report back. Still no one at RCCL knows if the extra stuff will be show up and see if you can ride or a scheduled time. "now I know what a guinea pig feels like" :lmao:

People on cruisecritic say that quantum is actually smaller than freedom class.

From RCCL the Freedom Class is 1112 feet long, 185 at widest, 15 decks and 160,000 tons
Quantum is 1141 feet long, and 135 feet wide, 16 decks and 167,800 tons so I would say almost the same but maybe quantum is slightly skinnier and taller. The goal of many women :lmao:

When comparing ships, I also consider passenger capacity.

The Freedom of the Seas holds 3,634 guests (double occupancy), 4,370 max.

The Quantum of the Seas holds 4,180 (dbl. occ.), 4,905 max.

Thanks for finding that I tried but got booted off my machine before. I guess that extra deck squeezed on 546 extra passengers.

yikes! that's a lot of extra people for a similar-sized vessel. hopefully they are as skinny as the ship! :) (and i can tell you, i definitely am not! ;) ).

honestly, i'm a little worried about quantum and anthem feeling crowded, but royal usually has such good crowd flow patterns, i'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for the moment.
