Figment closed?

Posts on the diz pins board suggest that Journey Into Imagination closed July 1. Can anyone confirm or deny?

I was there the week of 6/17-6/25 and it was closed the night we went over to it. I believe it was 6/18. We went over to it after doing Honey I Shrunk the Audience around 6 p.m. and it was all closed up. There were no signs or anything, but the lights were off and you couldn't get in the building. I thought it was odd because I hadn't seen this mentioned before we left, and there were no signs or anything saying it was closed for refurbishment or anything like that.

Well, we were there after that. 6/19-26 and it was open then -we rode it twice!

yes the original was far better, i'm still very upset that they changed it. apparently, even michael eisner hated the new one.

I'm so happy Figment isn't closed. I love that ride. I think it is so cool. I'm also happy that they changed it so figment is in it I love Figmet.

Yes, you can still meet Figment in person at Epcot. You might want to check the schedule. During summer season, he is only out and about ~20 minutes at a time.

We were in Epcot on 7/2. When we first arrived the Journey in to Imagination was done due to "technical difficulties." We went to the Honey I shrunk the Audience, took some pics with Figment and the kids (really cute!) and by that time the ride was up and we all rode it twice...my kids love it.

Why was it changed? Does anyone know?

It was first changed back around 2000 to update the ride and to get rid of Figment (rumor had it Eisner never liked Figment, despite the fact that he outsold Mickey in Epcot). Eisner announced at the stockholders meeting in Chicago that year that Figment had gone to "Figment heaven." (at the same time claiming to miss Figment himself)

The replacement ride frightened quite a few kids and received a lot of bad guest comments from what I read (deservedly so).

They redid the ride, injecting back in as much Figment as possible to make the ride that exists today. It's still more similar to the replacementride (JIYI) than it is to the original ride, albeit with Figment.

Is my family the only one that likes the new ride better than the old one? My DH and I rode the old ride back in 1997 and thought it was boring. We rode it last summer with our DD6 and thought the new ride was cute, and it became one of my DD's favorite.
