last week when i was in the world i heard figment the character is going away....is this true? any proof or did i just get caught up in another rumor?

I can't see him going away any time soon. He is pretty popular and is on many of the F&W things this year. I could see them closing the ride for another change but not doing away with him totally.

Yeah, Figment had a larger presence than I have seen in a while at F&W this past weekend. They even had plushies of him dressed as a chef. They refurbed the ride without him once and it didn't go over so well. Imagination might be ripe for a refurb, but I would bet Figment will stick around even if they do (which I doubt they will do anything to it until Soarin' & Frozen are completed).

I remember the year we went back and he was gone. Everyone got off the ride just staring at each other as the ride no longer even had a real theme or story. It was like some psychedelic trip that was just odd things in lots of colors. It was either the next year or two years later and figment was back with a different story but still figment.

Don't say that!!

They have new plushes of him/Christmas ornaments/even magic bands! As far as I'm concerned he is the mascot of Epcot! Disney needs to promote him as such!!

I wouldn't be suprise if they change the ride in a near future to inside out

even though i hate to admit it, i could see them doing that. but i just love figment so much. i bought the plush last weekend of him dressed as a chef and the F&W festival ornament. i just love him!!!

At this point, I would just chock it up to a rumor. There have been rumors for years about the ride being refurbished, Figment going away, etc. and so far nothing has really changed. I am inclined to think that even if the ride is refurbished, they'll still keep the character of Figment because he does seem popular. As others have said, they've been releasing new merchandise with him on it throughout the year, which is usually a good sign. They've also released two comic book series with him that have been popular.

Has anyone been reading the Figment comic books? They are actually pretty great. They have Dreamfinder in them too and are very fun. They sell the collected edition of the first series at the Imagination gift shop and the second series just started. I am liking the second one even better than the first.

For those Figment fans in California (or heading to Disneyland), they also sell the collected edition of the first series (all of the comics in one hard cover book) at the Off the Page shop in DCA!

Anyone know how the ownership of Figment by Kodak has changed? I know Kodak is rather defunct now and we have Disney comics (yay!) with Figment and Dreamfinder...but I wonder if there's any residual effect of original ownership in the ride being re-done and keeping Figment.

I thought that Kodak "owning" Figment and/or Dreamfinder was one of those urban myths.

I tend to think that Figment (at least) is owned by Disney. Otherwise, I would expect to see some kind of Kodak copyright on the merchandise. There hasn't been much Dreamfinder merchandise, but the items that I do have, don't have any mention of a Kodak copyright either.

Figment was not owned by Kodak. For the 30th anniversary of Epcot Tony Baxter did an Journey into Imagination panel. At the Cast exclusive one I was at he mentioned that Disney actually owns the copy right to the word Figment as a character and he was actually only brought back because they were about to lose their copy right if they didn't use him. After that they saw how profitable he was and jumped on it. He is now the mascot of Epcot and I imagine even if his ride goes away they will find somewhere for him.

Figment is one of my favorite Disney parks characters. Interestingly Figments house where you use to meet him was still there when I was a CM. At night when we cleared the park you could shine a light in the building and see all the stuff still on the wall like Figment was going to come out and say hello any moment.
