And people say soccer is boring. The last 15(?) minutes of regulation and the ET for Arg-Den is excitement after excitement after excitement. And we still have PK's to go.

I caught most of the Netherlands-Argentina game during a happy hour event. I enjoyed the skill and athleticism of the players, but was that game representative of the officiating at the WC? I wasn’t rooting for either team, and I do have a decent understanding of the rules from coaching my kids, but it seemed like the refs were definitely favoring Argentina. They purposely spread yellow cards to avoid sending anyone off (kind of like make-up calls in the NBA). And if intentional hand balls and firing a ball into the opposing bench are okay, why isn’t everyone doing it? It would make the game more exciting. And the foul that gave Argentina the penalty kick was pretty ticky tack. Just my somewhat informed opinion.

I was amused to see that flopping players still inexplicably always grab a shin, the only padded part of their body.

Ha! My family was talking about the refs calls/no calls in that game. I do not think the CR kept control of the game and blew some calls. The melee that cleared half (all?) of the Dutch bench should have resulted in multiple RC (at least one for Argentina).

Well, they did try at the end - the red card on Morocco was a joke...it just came a little too late for Portugal...

Morocco deserved the win, and now I'm gonna cheer for them to win it all!

I know it was mentored during the pregame, but Grant Wahl, the preeminent soccer journalist, died while covering the Argentina - Netherlands game. I've known Grant for 25 years and he, more than anyone else was responsible for introducing soccer to the American public and made it cool. It's a huge loss to the soccer community. He was only 48 and questions surround the cause of death.

Can't choke on a PK and a dead-on set piece on the last shot (both missing the net entirely)...gotta make the keeper make a save, even if he was lights out all night.

Yes they played quite well it was very close. Kane totally failed on that second penalty though. Onward and upward, at least I can concentrate on my vacation at Vero Beach next week and won’t have to seek out a Sports Bar.
