I do not know about any other of you but Field's name being changed to Macy's annoys me to no end.

Petty I know.

Why?
Macy's has bought up a bunch of smaller regional stores and went through the name change process.
They took over our Bon Marche stores....I don't really notice much of a difference (except the name).

what???? i had no idea!!! Don't worry, I'll be petty right along with you, it annoys me too!!! :rotfl:

Chicagoians feel your pain. I don't want to shop at a "Macy's". I want to shop at "Fields".

It's a Chicago thing..nothing against Macy's at all...

I'm with ya. I don't get a lot of the news down in TX, are people still trying to fight it or is it a done deal.

So sad.

We lost Burdines to Macy's....but I kind of like the Macy's. The old Burdines was dirty and dingie (this store location anyway) and it was remodeled in expectation of the name change.

It's in the Chicago Tribune (on the website) I think it may have been a leaked memo or something. Oh people will fight, you should see the poll they have up..Will you shop at there with the name change 95% no!

Will a name change at Field's make a difference to you?

90.2%
Yes (4457 responses)

9.8%
No (483 responses)

4940 total responses
(Poll results not scientific)

If so, would it make you more or less likely to shop there?

More (148 responses)

96.8%
Less (4410 responses)

And this has been up for about 30 min

Don't mess with fields... ;)

I understand what you mean, it is like a landmark gone poof!

But Macy's does rock!

I feel your pain. Here in New England, we are losing Filene's to Macy's. Given a choice between Filene's and Macy's I always choose Filene's so I wonder what changes might be in store for us.

They may as well call us New York 2. What's next, Millenium Park is now Times Square?? :rotfl:

It's sooo funny, everyone here is really mad!! :teeth:

Here in D.C., we are losing our beloved Hechts to Macy's. I'm devastated. :( I'm still not over the loss of Woodies (Woodward & Lothrup, my all time favorite department store) and now Hechts. :( I hate Macy's, I think they are overpriced.

Babar...I know..this will been enteraining on the newscasts tonight.

It's breaking news here. I just tried to vote on the NBC5 poll and the server is busy.

:rotfl2:

I miss the old Daley in times like this, remember when he used to turn red and SCREAM and ComEd in the news conf's

He would be doing that right now.

Good Lord...Macy's just needs to stop. They took over Rich's here in Atlanta. I'm sorry, Macy's Frango Mints just won't be the same as Field's Frango Mints!

Oh, I bet this Daley will have something to say!! Maybe his face will get red too!! :rotfl:

There is already an online petition, and people are already planning protests. This is hysterical, I love my city!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :teeth:

It's a done deal Federated has just bought all of May Company. Hecht's, Filene's, and all those other stores were May Company. The merger went through last week or so.

Federated, who owns Macy's and Bloomingdales, just doubled the stores they have.

I don't know what'll happen to my store. So far the plan is to keep it open. But Simon, of Simon Malls, is letting my mall go to pot. I don't know if Federated will kick Simon in the butt to get him to make the effort to keep this mall a place where people want to go or not. :confused3

I've never been to a Macy's, can anyone tell me what that's like?

It's more expensive, but does have a better designer collection than Field's.

But they can't change the name, damn it!!!!!!!!!!! :badpc:

Serena, if your talking the UP mall, that is my second home (not literally the mall the area)...My Dh's family is out there. We go out once a month.

That's the only fields in IN.

Serena, remember the Lazarus at Castleton? It's now a Macy's and pretty much the same as Lazarus. They are going to close the Ayres at Castleton (another of the May family).. I'm also annoyed with it. I really think the ever-growing giants from the countless mergers (in many industries) will turn out to be a summarily bad thing for us all in the long run. Not offering any data to back it up - just a feeling that something about it isn't sustainable.

Babar, I respectfully disagree with you. The few Macy's stores I've been in have been quite shabby; and their Sunday ads in the Sun Sentinal (my parents live in Delray Beach, FL) are very cheap and tacky.

I am sick about the name change - Macy's has ignored all pleas from Chicagoans not to change the name. Chicagoans are funny like that, we are a big city, Fields is Chicago and to mess with one of our own is not going to go over well. I realize that people won't boycott Macy's because (if left unchanged) the State Street store is extraordinary - I just wish there was a way to let Macy's know how much Fields means to us.
