I have read that sometimes there are large groups of field trips from schools in May and June.

Do children on the field trips pay $80 for a field trip???

I paid $4 for my daughter to go to a children's play for a field trip last month.

Is it older kids going on a special field trip once during their schooling?

Just seems like a very expensive field trip to go to DL???

I don't notice field trips - there usually were groups (bands and orchestras) that would visit from time to time but I don't know that I have ever seen a school group over like 25 kids.

We saw a bunch of them on the Monday after Mother's Day. It looked like groups such as Leadership, bands, student councils, etc... Most groups fundraise to send their members on a field trip such as this.

When we go during the summer we see school aged "day camps" (day care for older kids, really) mostly on Wednesdays, but other days too. These are large groups of about 20 kids ranging from probably 8-12 years of age lead by one or two older teen or young adult counselors. They have no control over the kids and they are a terror to be near in line because they are not taught to respect other people. Sometimes they are even allowed to go on a ride by themselves with 3 or 4 friends. You know what group they go to because they all have matching t-shirts with the name of their "camp" on it. We go the other way when we see them. As a parent, I'd never let my 8 or 10 year old go to DLR with a day camp like that. I don't know how much they pay to get in. Probably some sort of group discount but I don't know. :confused3

Other than that, I know sometimes middle schools will go as an end of the year party, maybe a special treat for 8th grade promotion.

oookkaayyy, that makes sense.

I have heard of performing groups (school bands, etc.) going when performing around the area.

Last week there were a lot of high school seniors attending (according to their t-shirts). It appeared that they were part of an "organized" senior ditch day. Some were on scavenger hunts to get pictures of certain items in the park, they were sweet and looked like they were having an awesome time.

When my youngest was In Jr High we would take over 400 kids every year for dance and choir competition. They were very well behaved and we received many compliments on their behavior inthe park.

That is a terifying thought to be in charge of 400 Jr High kids.:scared1:

I just looked at DH and said "She is brave" I am sure you had more than enough adults but my first thought when I read this was me and 400 kids and trying to figure out where to go first. :confused3

I remember going to Kings Dominion as a band trip every summer and loving it. If I was asked to chaperone now I think I would go into hiding. :rotfl:

Some of us are not cut out to be chaperones and I bow :worship: to those who are.

my daughter is having her 8th grade trip next week; tickets were $66 for just DL

As a teen I went with our Boy Scout troop to DL as an end of year award trip. But it was entirely paid for by fundraising throughout the year. Our troop always had an award trip for the top scouts each year based on attendance, miles hiked, advancement etc.

One year when we were there in mid May we encountered several groups from Baja California. They looked younger than junior high, 4 or 5 grade maybe. The only frustrating thing was that there were about 50 thousand kids to each adult. :rotfl2: --ok, it just seemed that way at times.

DH and I had to create a human barrior a few times in line just to protect our kids from getting stepped on. These kids didn't understand English (or had learned to pretend so when we attempted to request they be more careful :)) and were not adequately supervised. They weren't bad kids, just had no concept of personal space nor understanding of the fact that stepping on the back of my feet a dozen times with in the span of one line was not going to get them on the ride any faster.

We certainly didn't let it spoil our time. Just sharing our one experience on a day with more field trips than we had ever seen.

It was a Grad Night.
