Fiberglass tub repair & refinishing

We want to remove the glass doors from our tub/shower combo. Then repair the holes and refinish the whole tub. Does anyone have any experience good or bad with the different brands of this type of stuff?

When we sold our last house I contemplated removing the doors on our upstairs bathroom. I never did find anything that looked like a homeowner could do it. I considered trying to find something like a 2" wide, 1/4" thick strip to adhere to the surround. That would have covered the holes from the previous frame. I ended up not doing it due to time constraints.
