I need some help. I went to Steve's site to check out the times for Festival of the Lion King. We will be in Disney Sept 27th through Oct 2nd. Steve's site listed the show times but underneath it said Sunday thru Wed. Is the show only showing Sunday thru Wednesday. We were planning on doing AK on Oct 1st, Friday, which is a EE morning. Do I need to change my park days? I want to be able to see the show. Thanks.

I would like to know this as well. Thursday of our upcoming trip is when we plan on doing AK.

Steve's times and days are correct for this week only. The Lion King Theatre needs a bit of rehab due to recent storms, and the cast needs a few days of rehearsal to put in some new people (normal rehearsals after hours had to be cancelled due to storms and cast members not being able to get into rehearsal due to problems with their homes, etc). So ... the show is going down for a couple of days to take care of all of this.

Not correct. The show is down to rehab the lighting for the show. There has been no damage due to recent storms. The rehearsals that were cancelled have already been made up, therefore the only rehearsals are for the new lighting program and lights. It is only for the 16th through the 18th with the soft opening on the 19th.

Sorry, Samirella! I was going by what someone in the Ops offices said. I mentioned that I was planning on taking friends to the show on Saturday, and was told I couldn't because of the reasons I listed. Obviously, they had inaccurate info. My apologies.

I'm confused! We'll be at WDW 9/28-10/2 and were planning on going to AK on Th, 9/30. Will FoTLK be happening that day? It's one of our main reasons for going to AK.

Thanks, T&B

No problem! I understand some cms tend to elaborate the info they give! :wave2:

Yes, as I stated in my post above, the rehab is the 16th, 17th, and 18th with the soft opening on the 19th.

What the difference between a soft opening and just being open? I know that for a ride it can mean that the ride can close for technical reasons (of course any ride can close for that, at any time) and/or only be open several hours a day. What would that mean for a show?

Thanks! T&B

It means we are all coming in early so they can test the show several different times. The show may open later in the day, or if there are problems, it will be delayed.

Do you know how long the soft opening will go on? Are we talking a day, more, or there's no way to know?

I know that my DH would enjoy this show. He hasn't been to WDW in a few years and I'm trying to make this trip extra special (so he'll want to return sometime). We're going without the kids so that alone is reason to celebrate! ;)

Don't worry, the show will be up when you are here!

Thanks! It's a great show and glad my DH will be able to see it!

See you on 9/30!

To the show itself...no. The lights may be different and brighter, but that's all.

Well, the show with the new lighting opened today. The first show was the 11:45 after a long night and morning of rehearsals. The show certainly looks different. There are aspects I like and others I don't. Overall, the lighting is much darker than it was before. Any of the performers on the floor are very hard to see now. I'd like to hear what you all think of it once you see it!

Hopefully you'll get good reports about the show. Interesting that you thought the lights would be brighter, but are actually darker. Had you previously said the new lights are due to storm damage? If so, why didn't they keep the lighting like it was before instead of changing it since what they had worked well?

Apparently, the powers that be weren't expecting the show to be open today. This week's Times Guide didn't list any showtimes for Sunday, just Mon-Sat.

(if anyone out there is someone that I inadvertantly gave incorrect information to today, I apologize)

No, there was no storm damage. The new lights have been in planning for the past year...since they enclosed the theater. The lighting we had was designed for an outdoor theater to enhance the sunlight that would come in. Once they enclosed the theater they realized they needed a more theatrical lighing program. I watched a show today and it seems the lighting is either growing on me or they have tweaked it a bit.

They were expecting it to be open, they just don't print the showtimes in case rehearsals run longer than they thought. As it turns out, the show opened earlier than they first planned.
