Festival of the Lion King

I thought I saw somewhere that they didn't do the Festival of the Lion King anymore as they were putting a new show in its place, but then I see it mentioned on another thread as something not to be missed. Can someone let me know if it is still going or not? My kids really enjoyed it last time and are looking forward to seeing it again.

Festival of the Lion King show at the Animal Kingdom
is still going on daily.

The Lion King attraction at the Magic Kingdom is
over with and is being replaced by Mickey's Philarmagic.

I did read on another site that the FOTLK was going into rehab the end of Aug......don't know how accurate that is. Anyone else know?

Haven't heard that confirmed either. Wondering about that one as well. Apparently its for the enclosure for the auditorioum.

I believe the dates that it will be closed is Aug 24 until Sep 19. I talked to a camp counselor and he said it will be closed so they can enclose it and keep it a constant 70 degrees.

We have seen Festival of the Lion King several times over the past five eyars & it is always wonderful! The CMs are wonderful & each show seems like their first (not the umpteenth time they've done it).

Looks like it might be closed during our trip. I'm glad I've seen it before, but the newbie we're bringing would have loved it.

We went when we were there the first of July and the fire twirler did not perform. He came out and checked the stage and kept slipping. He did the "slash the throat" move and then left the stage area. Crew quickly jumped on the stage with towels to dry it for the other performers. If it is enclosed this should prevent this from happening. I hope so as the fire part is one of my favorite as I am a former fire twirler.

Yes, it will be down August 24-September 19. They have already begun working on the building at night while the park is closed.

Its not on the officially website or this one or another one which lists rehabs.


I know I HAVE heard it, but its not on the official Disney site, or any others for that matter.

I'm there five days a week and I can tell you they have already started working on the theater and it will be down during the time stated above.

Its not that I am doubting you, but I was just stating it is not on any rehab schedule anywhere.

Wouldn't it be posted on the official Disney site? Or is it not "firm" yet? Do they not post the rehabs on the Disney site until like a week prior? If this information is readily available, why isn't it posted? Who maintains that information? Why hasn't it been posted as of today? Will it wait for the 30 day mark to post it?

Now, will the attraction supervisors notify the powers that be who then will post it?

Just wondering how that chain works...

You are the only CM that is a regular here that I have heard that from, here and the Rumors forum. That is great you have that information.

I'm not trying to pick a fight, but just wondering why it isn't posted if this information is readily available. Why the wait, and the lack of posting if it is official?


I'll be there on Aug 23rd and make plans to watch that show that day just to be on the wise side... if the rehab aren't marked on the show map then I will be glad to see that I did get it in early instead of later on in the trip.

Apparently not. The plans to enclose the theater are, in fact, 'firm'. The elephant section has been moved forward and the wall behind it has been covered with a black tarp. There has already been work done to the areas behind the giraffe and lion sections.

I understand that you aren't picking a fight. How reliable is the Disney site when the information for September was left incomplete for so long (for example, there were no parades listed, no Illuminations, no Fantasmic!)?

Perhaps I'll see you there. I don't believe it's policy to print rehabs in the guidemap the day before the actual start date. I could be wrong there. I don't remember the last time I looked at a guide map.
