Is getting a seat at Festival of the Lion King easily done around 11am, without a fast pass?

Yes. We've never used a FP+ for this show and always get good seats. Arrive 5-10 minutes before the show and you'll be fine.

Last time I was there was during a late June/early July trip and we went to one of the first shows of the day with no FP+ and were fine.

As others have said, I have never needed to use FP+ for FoTLK, arrive a bit early (we usually get there 10 to 15 minutes before the show) and you'll get in with no problem.

If you have a strong desire to sit in either the Elephant or Warthog sections, you may want to arrive somewhat earlier, since those two are smaller. But in terms of just getting into the show, the advice you've gotten above is spot on.
I've probably seen the show about 50 times since 1998, and about 49 of them (all but the very first) have been in the Elephant section. So I tend to get there early.

I think it depends on how crowded the park is as to how early you need to be in line. We were there last week with a CL 9 and an opening time of 9:00. We got in line for Lion King about 10:45 and barely got a seat in the last row of the lion section.

I don't really think you need a FP for any show at any wdw park. However we've done the FP for Lion King, Indiana Jones, etc just because there wasn't any other rides we were interested in fp'ing.

FP gets in slightly before standby and FP is in their own section. However each of the four sections are equally as good. We enjoyed the FP line over the standby because during last summer in the standby we were stuck standing in the sun roasting. We like to get there about 30 min before the show starts so we were sweating for awhile. We found there's more shade on the FP line, so that was enough for us.

But no a FP definitely isn't needed. I can't think of any show that needs one. Really the only FP for a show I enjoyed getting was Lights Motors Action because you got to bypass the huge standby line.
