Happy Birthday to Fess Parker, star of Walt Disney's Davy Crockett series and other Disney films like The Great Locomotive Chase, Old Yeller, Westward Ho, The Wagons! and Light in the Forest!

Fess was born on August 16, 1924 (Davy Crockett was born on August 17, 1786) and died on March 18, 2010.

He was inducted as a Disney Legend on Oct. 22, 1991 by Roy Disney.

Fess Parker Wines are available at a number of WDW locations, from the Grand Floridian Cafe to the Prime Time Cafe.

See his biography: Fess Parker: TV's Frontier Hero.

All the best.

1) Yep.
2) And, we really like some of his wines, especially
. . . Bien Nacido Pinot Noir, and
. . . Santa Barbara County Syrah

Excellent choices!

Now then...secure some of Fess' syrah from Rodney's Vineyard. You will enjoy its richness and distinct finish. After that, try Fess' "Crockett," which is selected syrah by chief winemaker Blair Fox. And the bottle is elegantly etched. It is memorably impressive on a number of levels.

[Check out Fess Parker: TV's Frontier Hero and you'll understand.]

All the best. :thumbsup2

I guess I didn't know that he made wines, so, even though they can cause me headaches, I might give them a try on our next trip!

The Fess Parker Winery celebrates its 25th anniversary next year, which happens to be the 90th anniversary of Fess' birth. Next year also marks the 60th anniversary of the first episode of "Davy Crockett, Indian Fighter."

All the best. :thumbsup2

We visited the Fess Parker winery about 6 years ago and sampled there great wines. I have been a member of there wine club ever since.

We are Fess Parker Wine Club members as well. Unlike other "celebrity" wine makers, Fess was actually involved in the creation of the winery. As is mentioned in his biography, Fess Parker: TV's Frontier Hero, he "had a nose for dirt," and used it well.

And today, August 17, is Davy Crockett's birthday!

All the best. :thumbsup2

I read his biography a while back and it was a very good read. You are so right he was very hands on in the creation of the winery.

I had Fess Parker Syrah at the California Grill several years ago with their beef filet dinner ... Heavenly

Fess Parker's birthday isn't directly related to theme parks attractions and strategies, so I've moved this thread to the Theme Parks Community forum.

In addition to what's been posted about him above, Fess has the distinct honor of having a window dedicated to him in Disneyland. But unlike virtually all of the other dedicated windows, which are on Main Street, his is in Frontierland. :)

Thanks for the info on the move, Brian!

Yes, the large window was a great honor. Fess attended the dedication of the event on December 15, 2004, the 50th anniversary of "Davy Crockett, Indian Fighter." Fess also received a miniature version of it which was kept for years in his main office in Los Olivos, CA, where he first showed it to me. Fess also displayed the Walter E. Disney Lifetime Achievement award presneted to him by Michael Broggie, Founding Chairman of the Carolwood Historical Society.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Where is this newly placed thread located? Help! :confused3

Found it!

Now then, Walt Disney's Davy Crockett series in the 1950s was a mega cultural event and a financial bonanza for all involved. Yet, there is no mention of it or a single Davy Crockett display in One Man's Dream at HS. Nothing. Almost an Orwellian treatment of the past. :sad2:
