Somebody corrrect me if I'm wrong but when AK opened weren't there suppose to be some kind of ferry boats (Discovery Boats? Discovery River?) which would take you around the Tree of Life area? Seems it was discontinued soon after AK opened, but I think you can still see the docking area. Reason I bring this up there was a picture taken from somewhere high up on Expedition Everest and it looked like one of the ferry boats was in the water in front of the EE area. Maybe Disney was just taking some photos from the water of EE using one of the old boats.

I think they use the boats for other stuff now- I know there's one that floats around w/characters on it sometime. And they used one for Radio Disney.

I went to the AK when it first opened and did one of the boat rides- it was pretty boring- just a way to get from point A to point B. I think I remember them having some animals in little cages (like big bugs) for you to look at on the boat. I was only like 16 at the time so I don't remember much about it. :teeth:

One of the boats (the one I didn't get on of course) went past an animatronic dragon.

When AK opened there wasn't a lot of info. on the internet about it. It was kinda like you just went in the park and wandered around. I remember not knowing about any of the attractions ahead of time.

You are correct---there was a boat ride when AK first opened. We experienced it in 1999 and it was really not great and we all agreed we would never go on it again.
