Hi, can you tell me anything about that area?We are going to be moving to Florida and was trying to have a few areas to look at.We are going to be looking at the central area, but the drawback is the prices thay pay Floor installors. So that is the reason we are looking at North area.

If anyone can suggest any areas I would appreciate it.

Also, how is the crime rate in Fernindina beach area?

We loved Jacksonville! And we were only 2 hours-2 hours, 15 minutes from WDW!! We went every other weekend (no kids then!)

Fernandina Beach, if I remember correctly is a rather high-end area, at least the parts we saw. May want to try JAX and just live on the east side of town so you're closer to the beach. We lived on the South side of town in an area called Mandarin and loved it!

Good luck with your decision and research!

We were stationed just over the FL border in GA for four years and we went to Fernandina Beach often. It is a pretty little coastal town, but beyond that I can't offer you much information. I know there are nice areas of Jacksonville too. Good luck in your search.

I feel your pain, flooring installers are underpaid most places. Especially where they aren't union. My DH did it for 20 some years, in VA, GA, and AZ. Depending on what he installed and where, the rates varied a lot. ANd varied from shop to shop that he sub contracted out of. What type of flooring does he do? THe best thing would be to contact the shops in the areas you are looking at and ask them what they are currently paying.

He does carpet, vinyl, tile and linoleum. He will not do hardwood.

Fernandina Beach is the county seat for Nassau County. It is pretty laid back for a beach town. The crime I would guess is about average. I read about people passing a bad check or a drug bust on occasion in the local fish wrapper. There is a lot of new construction going on in the north Fl area right now. The cost of living is higher on Amelia Island(where Fernandina is located) than the rest of the county. Yulee is where most of the new growth is happening. There is also alot of new construction going on in St.Johns county just to the south of Jacksonville. They also are suppose to have good schools. Hope this helps. I'll try to answer any other questions you have. Just ask:smooth:

Which are would you prefer?

Also how long has it been since a hurricane has damaged your area?I know this sounds stupid, but it kinda worries me:earseek:

Thanks,
Misty
