After reading through the Weigh-in thread for this week, I noticed a few people seem to be getting disheartened. So, I thought we could post some hints and tips to help motivate each other. It doesn't have to be just weight-loss tips, it could be something that makes you feel better about yourself or a nice low-fat healthy recipe :)
  • As well as weighing yourself each week, take your bust, waist and hip measurements at the beginning and end of the pledge - you may not be losing lbs but you could be losing inches
  • Sin-free potato wedges - allow 1 medium-sized potato per person, cut into 8 wedges, par-boil for about 5 minutes, then spray a baking tray with Fry-Lite or other low calorie spray and bake in the oven for about 30-40 minutes. I always sprinkle mine with some season-all as well
  • Choose an item of clothing that's a bit tight and try it on each week (I finally managed to get a pair of size 16 trousers buttoned up this week)
  • Sugar-free Angel Delight made up with some chopped fruit in is lovely

Thanks Joh, I'll add...
keep the water levels up, when you're hungry have a glass of water first and stop eating after 20 minutes. This'll give the food you've already had time to digest and you may not want the rest.

If you are really tempted to eat something naughty brush your teeth as then taste will put you off eating!

If you are tempted and don't want to cheat. Go for a walk or to the gym. After you have worked hard you will be less likely to cheat.

thanks joh... think that is what we all need!

One of my fav recipes is home made soup using lots of fresh veg, cook in a saucepan with water and a stock cube, then blend the vg untill smooth (or leave veg if you like it chunky!) and season - its really filling and hardly any calories!

Also for cooking if i need to fry something i always use frylite - lots less calories!

I agree Laura, with the soup thing, its a very good way to get most of your daily allowance in, if like me you're too lazy to cook 3 or 4 different veg portions every night

If you want to bulk it out a bit then add a handful of dried pasta, it makes it almost like a veg stew and its lovely.

This has worked a treat for me.

If you like a food try and find something that you can still enjoy that has less calories, it doesnt have to be no calories.

Crisps: Have Frech Fries/KP Squares instead of Normal crisps, they have less than a third of alot of other crisps.

Alchohol: If you like beer (and i love it) drink something that you like but you have less of. I drink Red wine instead of Heineken now, calorie difference is alot.

I have NICE bisuits and small non chocolate ones but still have some.

Tesco do a great range of cheap frozen dinners at 5 for £5 or something. They include Chicken Pasta Bake which is very very tasty.

Cut down on bread.

Drink Water and loads of it. If you want sugary drinks drink the diet versions.

This all sounds a bit silly and easy to know but i can say for a fact i dont believe i am dieting because i dont deprive myself of anything but i am losing 1 or 2 pounds a week almost every week.

:thumbsup2

A nice pudding, sin free...

Sugar free jelly but make it with 1/2 pint of hot water, and then rather than adding 1/2 pint of cold water to make it up, add fizzy (not flat) diet lemonade.

Leave it for 1 hour or so, so the bubbles don't get chance to go flat.

It's lovely bubbly.
