Fellow FL Res. How are you faring with the weather??

I am in southeast FL and what a storm last night!!!! About 2am-so much wind-the windows were making so much noise. It lasted about 45 minutes. At noon I am supposed to take my son to school to meet his new teacher, etc. I wonder if that will even happen:(

You guys be careful!! I am so worried for all of you. Be safe.

Thank you for the updates. I've never experienced anything like this so it is so interesting hearing it from you.

Your in my prayers.

Disney MGM, MK and Epcot all close at 1pm. Universal and SeaWorld are closing at 2pm. Downtown Disney, Animal Kingdome and the water parks are all closed all day.

All is very calm here west of WDW. The maintenance crew here just threw all the pool furniture into the pool. It looks funny. The bugs are making a racket! You should here the noise from all the bugs- it's gross!

Publix in our neighborhood got a shipment of ice early this morning- I was persistent enough in calling that I heard that the shipment of ice had arrived but had not been put out yet. I was at the store in about 2 minutes and kept asking staff until someone took me "out back" and loaded my cart with ice!

I LOVE PUBLIX!

So, the tubs are full of water, the dishes and laundry are done, the candles are out, the ice is in the coolers, the fridge is cold, the cars are parked away from trees, the pet carriers are ready for the cats and we have a TON of food. The cell phones, video camera and digital camera are charged. The plants are in from outside. We have a pile of books, magazines and movies ready to hunker down.

What did we forget???????

My kitty fell into the tub full of water! Poor thing! She always plays in there when there is no water. That has been the only excitement so far! She looks like a wet rat!

We'll take pictures for ya'll!

Throwing the furniture in the pool. What a good idea! I would have never thought of that. Stay safe!::yes::

Thanks for the good wishes. I think we're all going to need them.

I confess I'm a bit of an emotional wreck right now. Before this storm decided to make a beeline for us, I was packing up my younger son to take him to college. We are scheduled to fly out to L.A. on Saturday morning, but of course that looks extremely doubtful now. And no telling when we'll actually be able to fly out, or what kind of aftermath I'll have to be leaving behind here.

It's just all becoming a big blur....

Just take things as they come and you'll get through it. Plans can be rescheduled and possessions can be re-bought (?).

I know it's the anticipation that really gets to you, but just calm down and keep an eye on the reports.

We'll all get through this.

We are still getting some outer bands in So Miami-Dade. Very windy and a bit of rain. Nothing really big for us. I'm just a bit north of the Keys.

I know it is not going to be a big impact here in HOMESTEAD,,,but I am still a bit on th uneasy side,,,,seems I heard that back in 1992,,,until about 12 hours (or less)before we heard--OOPS ANDREW has TURNED.......I got my DH &DS and GOT OUT,,,,ANDREW GOT THE REST LOL.....

Tigger&Tink- I used to live in Homestead. We had moved north before Andrew, but went back about 2 years later to see our old house, which was no longer there and the aftermath of damage was still quite visible.

Good luck to all. I know that here on the far east Central FL coast things are calm. No wind or rain to speak of, just light grey and overcast skies.

Nope, nothing going on here. No thunder, no rain, no wind.......it's just eerily quiet.

Yesterday, I picked up my mother who lives in El Jobean less than a quarter mile from the Myakka river. Trust me on this.......it ain't easy convincing an 85 year old to leave their house. The funny thing is, Mom woke up this morning, saw there was no storm and announced she was ready to go home!

We're all set and ready. We're at one of the high points in Charlotte county so storm surges aren't a concern for us. Neither is wind because we had our old roof replaced with a metal roof last year. The roofer told us our roof would withstand 200 mile an hour winds.

A few stories from the "front." My sister does group therapy and she running around last night trying to get the homeless (yes, we do have them) to prepare for the storm. She managed to get the local Publix to bring some supplies to some of the homeless here (a big thank you to Publix), but she can't convince any of the folks to go to a shelter. One guy said he was going to ride out the storm in a dumpster.

Anyway, nothing yet to report from here, but I do notice an awful lot of birds are in our area. I don't what significance that is, but that's all that's going on.

Would just like to wish everyone good luck over there in Florida.
From all the dibbers over here in the United Kingdom.
I have been following it over here, and sure looks like Tampa is going to get the brunt of it.
Once again good luck everyone.

I think they're projecting an 8:00pm landfall for us, right now. That's gone back and forth since yesterday. Earlier this morning, they thought it would be earlier in the afternoon.

I'm wishing it would come in earlier - during the daylight - so we can see what's going on...

Still no rain here, either.

Be Careful Everyone
I was supposed to be in Ocala today looking at homes.
Stay safe
prayers are with you all

You aren't the only one wishing it would come earlier, in fact I am thinking about trying to snag a nap, probably will be up a good part of the night. I have 2 inside closets ready to hunker down in got all my preparations done also, have all the doors sealed up pretty good and the car moved away from the trees. Had to get away from the TV just over and over, I know we need to know what is going on but now the anticipation is starting to wear on me. Got all my critter cages set up and waiting in the laundry room, I guess they are getting ready to close the bridges, the Skyway is supposed to be closes already, and they said that Pinellas county will almost be like an island. Will keep you all posted as long as we can.

Just received a phone call from SO's mom. She lives in IndianTown, so not in the storm's path, but she is prepared to move to SO's brother's house in Stuart if necessary as his home is concrete block. A little more disturbing now to see it upgraded to a Cat.4 storm, and to hear the reports of it turning towards Orlando, which will bring it closer to us (although still hopefully not too much destruction in our area).

Hope all of our friends who are visiting WDW right now are safe, and that Mickey's house doesn't suffer too much damage!!!

Heavy rains on and off but not much wind here. The skies look very mean though. There was a reported tornado about 12 miles north of me but no confirmation yet. Keep safe everyone.

Good luck everyone. We're gonna be thinking about you and praying for safety...

I think I like the storms in Missouri better. True, we had some really nasty tornados, but they came and went very quickly. This waiting for the other shoe to drop is hard. I wish it would just get and then leave! We are as ready as possible. Since we've never done this before, we don't know what we are doing. I've tranquilized the dog. He's they only calm one in the family!

They are reporting it is now a category 4 hurricane and it is changed it's track to directly hit the orlando area. It is just raining and thundering here for now. There have been some tornadoes in central florida, lots of accidents on the roads.

The eye is now going to pass just over us later tonight!

We still have electricity.... for now. We are going to hurry up and cook dinner before we lose it.

Keepings all its path in my thoughts and prayers.

Here in Okeechobee it's getting really REALLY windy, some smaller tree limbs have broken and there's palm fronds everywhere. It's raining as well... More as it comes :)
