With the recent "Pi Day" publicity, I've been asked about the Feynman Point - the part of the decimal where six nines occur in a row. Specifically, I was asked how the calculation can break out of that pattern and continue?

I can find a lot about the fact that any random string of numbers should occur if you go far enough (including that one)...but not really the answer to the question.

Does anyone know of a simpler example in which this happens?
