Feeling very unprepared and out of sorts

Going home in just under 2 weeks (fly in the 12th). I have been since the Pandemic, so that's not new. Although this will be my first time with Genie+ and ILL's. I can not count the number of times I have gone to Disney. I have been 3 times since the Pandemic. In other words, I am not new to this parade.

But I have never felt so underprepared. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY. I feel like there are things I should have done but have missed.

* Booked cab from home to airport (that's a new thing; since we moved I do not driving to the airport here)
* Arranged for pet care
* I have my flights
* Limo booked from MCO to Kidani.
* Kidani is booked
* ECV's booked (this is new - but we have a few mobility issues this trip)
* We have AP's
* Park Reservations are done
* ADR's done (except in AK; we are planning at Yak and Yeti and I have my Landry's card)
* we will probably get Genie+ for our MK day, but can't buy that yet
* I have not done a SHRED of packing, but my Disney suitcase is always ready - just add clothes and meds. :-) (I have meds to last)
* App updated
* (I still need to download my DVC card....)

WHY DO I FEEL THAT I AM MISSING THINGS? Not just one thing, but like.... lots of things? What am I missing? It's driving me crazy!!! And I know what it is.... it's missing things like FP+ even though I haven't done that for years, and feeling that I should be doing stuff with Genie+ and ILL even though I can't.

The struggle is real. Is it just me????

Adding mobility issues to the trip is a big one. It's a large difference, and I think it's OK to acknowledge it as such. Truth is there could be difficulty if you can't get on this particular bus. Maybe it will be hard to travel peak times. Maybe you'll have issues seeing fireworks or getting on a particular ride. You have to figure out charging, etc. It's a lot for me with my wheelchair bound relative who lives every minute of every day in a chair like that.

You're right. And TBH we BOTH are having mobility issues right now (although me less so). So we have booked 2 ECV's, but I am hoping mine is just a backup and I don't really need it. I just don't want to NOT have it and need it. But yes, I HAVE SOME ANXIETY when it comes to transportation. We used LYFT A LOT on our last few trips and that option is out with the ECV's. We will have to wait for a bus (which can take a while) and if I have to use mine, then a bus that can take 2 ECV's and OMG I do not want to be "that guy" that holds up everyone else and limits how many people get on the bus. I could go on for a while about how bothered I am about having to be the ECV family.....

But do you think that's why I feel like I am missing something? I admit that concerns me when I am there. But I am not sure that qualifies as underprepared so much as anxious about the trip.

And maybe that is what I am feelin'. I dunno. Good thought, though.

The ECV is an advantage if you're at BLT. Heck, take the monorail to wherever. But at AKL, the buses take two ECVs. If there's someone in line ahead of you, there's not room for both of you in ECVs.

I'm more worried about waiting for the next bus than what strangers think about it.

This was a big limitation when we traveled with a wheelchair to places that required bus transportation. At AKL, that's everywhere. Except Jambo, you can just motor over there quickly!

Thanks for the tip!

Enjoy and good luck!! I’m not thrilled about losing ME; please let us know how it goes!!

I agree that the unsettled feeling may be due to adding ECVs.

That's a significant change in touring style. You're probably anxious about the differences you sense you'll discover but can't comprehend as yet.

I injured a knee a few years ago, needing a brace and cane. Those two simple devices made my WDW experience oddly different in unanticipated ways.

And then, we ate at Akershus where DH's powerchair had to be parked near the lagoon wall. He couldn't walk from there back to the entrance. That's when I learned how challenging and tiring driving an ECV all day must be. I got a much greater understanding of why he tires so easily.

You're smart to be anxious, I think. It'll make you more safety-conscious than others who think maneuvering an ECV is no big deal.

old habits die hard. When you’ve been booking passes for years, and no longer have to / can do it, it’s bound to feel like something’s missing. It’s like losing a limb - it may still feel like it’s there (you should have booked them) even when it’s not)

I'll say that I was having weird unprepared feeling before my trip a few weeks ago. And when it came down to it, it was because of the Genie+ and ILLs. Until you start to use the system in real time, there is a definite feeling of "WHAT AM I DOING?" I've been going to WDW my whole life. (Since my childhood in the 80's.) I was always very confidant in my Disney knowledge when it came to navigating the parks and what not, but this was the first time having to deal with such a huge change. You'll feel better once you go again and get some experience with the changes under your belt.

I still think this is a lot of what has me uneasy. I keep feeling that I should be doing something. I didn't get Genie+ in advance since I have an AP. I can't get it until I am there. I can't plan anything until then. I have no idea HOW to plan anything except from some youtube videos that poorly explain it (they explain the process, but there is no good step by step that I have found).

Like you mentioned, I think I will be a lot more at ease about it after having done it once or twice.

There's some good info here on the disboards of how to use Genie+
It's very helpful and reinforces all of my own experiences.

Yup. And I read the threads and I watch the videos. I am more prepared than the average bear. That said, there is nothing the same as experiencing it. I will have to do it before I am comfortable with it. :-)

I felt that way on my last trip. Turns out, we just have the system down. I did Genie on the fly on purpose because i didn't know if i would want it. We even loosened up on the food planning but i it all worked out, except once i was hungry. I think after you have been so many times, it is just relying on memory muscle and trusting your intuition.

Once I felt that antsy on the way to a special event, but that is just because i had extra caffeine in the morning.

This is the problem I am having! I have been numerous times, pets handled, car rental done, tickets bought, all the usual things. The Genie+ scares the crap out of me. Do I need it? Do I not need it? We're pretty laid back park people since we go often enough but I don't; want to be there and not be able to get on rides easily. I want to do ROTR but that's my second park of the day on a hopper. Can I get it with the ILL in the morning for an afternoon time? I have no idea. I'm sure it's all in my head and it'll be fine once we're there but I over plan and over think.
