Now after reading the seasickness after getting off the ship should I be worried? I have not had motion sickness on a plane car or train but have never traveled by ship. I don't want to be swaying for days after as we are headed to Disney for 5 days after. does this really happen to a lot of people?
Thank you
Tina

meclazine, it is an anti-vertigo medicine. I used it when I first got on board, one day when there was a storm and the 24 hours after we got home....it's not that I was sick to my stomach, rather it just felt like the world was spinning and this was the wonder drug for it. I also had some bonine on hand in case I felt quesy, but never really needed it. Other than an occassional car ride or really spinny amuesment ride I never get motion sick either but felt it on board (not disney but a RCCL ship, same difference in this case though) and the meclazine did the trick. I even took it with me on our last trip to wdw just for mission space.

Hi,

Mom & I have this but it only lasts for a day or so then it goes away. For me it only lasts a few seconds @ a time too. I wouldn't worry too much. :D

Have Fun,

Hi tinarean
I wouldn't worry too much about the swaying if I were you.
Yes you sway a bit, but it is not a constant swaying. It comes and goes and usually only lasts for a few seconds at a time.
Especially since you say that you don't have a problem with motion sickness, I don't think you will have too much of a problem.

It was not a big thing for us either.

I noticed that when I sat down at the computer, the room had a slight sway. Not enought to really bother me, just enough that I noticed it. Went away in a day or so.

As for seasick medicine, Meclizine is the generic form of Bonine. They both are made from the same ingredients. They work for 24 hours.

Thank you, I tend to be a "nervous nellie" if I hear something that may affect me in an unusual way. I just did'nt want to cancel this wonderful cruise for me and the kids because of my fear of the unkown.
I will load up on the Bonine and enjoy!!

Also, (if this gives you any reassurance,) I'm the Queen of motion sickness. (DH and DD don't like to be in a vehicle w/me if we have to make too many turns, and I also hardly ride any rides at WDW.)

I felt the swaying that others have posted here. BUT, it did not make me seasick. It actually felt funny to me. I'd be standing in our kitchen, and feel it, but since I wasn't really moving I was fine. I'd laugh and tell DH, 'I feel as if I'm still on board the ship.':hyper:

Way back; when the Big Red Boat was the cruise line for Disney, my wife and I both felt it for several days after the cruise.

When we did the Wonder in 1999, I didn't feel it at all but by wife and son did, but for my wife it did not last as long.

I think the difference was, the Big Red boat was much smaller than the Wonder and we had much bigger waves and a lot more motion on the first cruise. The Wonder was much smoother sailing.

I remember I felt it most when we were in tighter spaces or smaller rooms. In a large room it was hardly noticeable.

After our first cruise (we were in a category 9), we felt the swaying for 4 days after the cruise. Our second cruise (category 4) we did not feel it at all. NOt sure why. The reason I put the category is because someone commented on bigger rooms you don't feel it as much. Category 4 was bigger plus it had the verandah.

And for me it seems to be coming and going, yesterday morning was bad in terms of me taking a few extra steps around corners and feeling a bit unbalanced...(not "sick", never that queasy feeling, just unsteady) Then yesterday evening it totally went away. This morning, sitting here at work staring at my monitor, it's back...but as others have said, not a sickness type feeling, just a feeling that I'm moving. And apparently I AM swaying a bit, as a coworker (who actually runs our cruise dept. here at work and therefore has gone on many cruises) just came by and watched me and then giggled and said "Oh, back from your cruise I see!"...

*grin*

It's just slightly discombobulating for me. The kids are both fine today, btw!

For a couple days after our cruise I had brief moments of "unsteadiness".

It wasn't severe and it wasn't constant. It certainly wouldn't have prevented me from having fun had I been at WDW!

I noticed it when I was standing up, or if I leaned over, I felt like I was going to tip over!

I get motion sickness flying, cruise, spending the day at Disneyland or WDW. I'm constantly on dramaminewhile at the parks. I usually only take dramamine for a few days on the cruise because I forget and have never been sea sick on the Magic yet. On the smaller snorkel boats, yes, the ship no. My whole family felt wobbly for several days after our 7 night cruises. Never that yucky, wann'a puck:crazy2:, gotta go lay down for 5 hours type of sick, just wobbly!

Lucky for you (you're going to WDW), the best "remedy" for me was when I rode Tower of Terror. I tell you that wobbly feeling was left somewhere way up there (or down there at the bottom of the drop-I'm not really sure which). I would not get that funny feeling again for at least an hour. When it came back we just got on ToT again (assuming we were at MGM).

DON'T cancel your cruise because of this minor side effect.

Bonine and Meclizine are the same drug. Be sure to read the ingredients of all drugs and the indications and contraindications before using any medicine for seasickness or any other condition. This will help prevent an inadvertent overdose of a drug.

The names of this drug are Antivert, Antrizine, Bonine, Dizmiss, Meni-D, Ru-Vert-M, Vergon and others.

Please be careful with OTC medications. They can be very useful but if not used wisely they can certainly ruin a great vacation.

I do not get motion sickness at all (well sometimes on a bouncy ride or elevator but lasts just as I get off for a few seconds. But I did feel swayey for almost 2 weeks after we got off. The first day wasn't bad - it started the 2nd day after. I was beginning to get worried but it ended up being fine. And I'm talking when I would get up from sitting for a while or right after I sat until I got my bearings.

Next cruise I will take some meds.

If I would have known that it would happen, and that other people experience this, it wouldn't have bothered me so much. It never made me feel sick to my stomach, I just felt funny. Now that I know what to expect and that it might happen again, I'm not going to worry about it. Our first cruise (and it wasn't even DCL) was so wonderful, I can't imagine cancelling because of the swaying I felt afterwards. Besides, you can't cancel, my son wants to meet yours :D . You're going to have a great time!
