Feeling sick before my trip

Ugh! On a whim I booked a trip in just 1 week for Disneyland! Well now its 5 days away. I am feeling so run down. Its partly the last minute planning and getting things together, but I also been really busy in my personal life. Which is funny because the reason I booked this trip was because I had NOTHING going on here and I was so bored! But now everything wants to come tumbling down on my head! Doesn't it usually happen that way? :rotfl:
Anyway, today I feel sick, like nauseous, tired, just run down. (I know I'm not pg). It sort of feels like how one would feel right before getting a 24 hour stomach bug. If I do get it, I am just praying it comes and goes soon and that all is good for my trip.
Thanks for listening!

I always get like that before a trip. Get some extra vitamin C and exercise in, I'm sure you'll be fine. Have fun!

I tend to get like that too.

For our first trip back in Feb, things were going crazy. In the weeks before the trip, I needed to get a consent to travel (DD's a perm foster child), was waiting for my tax return (you know, the FUNDING for the trip! LOL), throw a bday party for DD, find time to buy her a little gift (Disneyland was her "big present"), had "Mother Nature" for the first time in 3 months, and then, 2 days before we leave, I came down with a sinus infection. Oh yeah, and we had an overnight guest that we had to take home before our 11am flight the morning after DD's bday party. Any reason I felt overwhelmed and sick? LOL, I think not!

The good news was that after we got there and I got a heck of a good night's sleep (I think I slept from like 11pm to 9am!), and took a Sudofed, I felt better before I even saw those green security tents! :) Poor DD, though, couldn't fight off the cold, and her little sore, raw nose reminded me of a certain chipmunk. (Hint: DLR napkins do NOT make good kleenex!)

Hope you get feeling better soon, but if you don't, I promise, DD can vouch that DLR is still fun even if you are sick the whole time ;)

Thanks for your responses! I am feeling much better this morning, thanking God its not that 24 hour bug! I think cramming so much trip planning, packing, AND taking care of normal chores got to me for a second there! But I am feeling good and back to being excited :-) I guess its just normal to feel kind of run down at some point.

I can feel a bit that way before a trip aswell, as does my mother. I think we just get anxious about making sure we pack everything we need, don't miss our flights, don't loose our luggage, etc. Just try to relax. You are going to have a wonderful time! Was just looking at the weather forecast and it looks gorgeous!

i get like that too. and I made sure we all had the chewbule pepto and it was used alot in may but it also kept us all from being sick or getting sick from my dad and we still had a good time. i know in oct im taking it again and you will settle down im sure. It happens alot before trips. Ppl always start feelign run down and a bit over whellmed just try to take a brake from the planing packing worrying

I got sick right before a trip to DL last year and was sick the whole time I was there but still had a great time. Just remember to rest, eat (even though you may not be hungry) and keep hydrated. The only really bad day I had was because I didn't eat. I wasn't hungry and just decided to go go go and around 2 my entire body crashed from not eating and I hung out in the PFF are for 3 hours until I'd regained my strength.

Ditto many other responses. Last year in July we made a trip to DLR and there was a lot of weird stuff going on -- unusual stressful stuff -- essentially I was negotiating with an insurance company and dealing with a contractor who had damaged my house and then put a lien on it because I refused to pay him until my house was fixed -- I had hoped it would all be settled before we left, but it wasn't, and so I was still dealing with it a bit while on vacation.

You know what? Disney was still magical. Because of the environment I was able to just set it all aside for 22 1/2 hours of every day and enjoy myself. Didn't think about it at all except for a little bit each day when we went back to the hotel to rest, snack, recharge, and even then, my perspective on the whole thing had shifted, I realized that it would get settled eventually so I needed to relax and let it just be what it was.

(As it turns out, that was great advice, it was another two plus months before most of the issues were settled, and another three months beyond that before we were able to actually fix the damage... so, pretty classic, stressing out about something often just leads to, well, stress!)

Do what you can to relax now, but keep in mind that once you are there, you WILL RELAX! It's not a Jedi Mind Trick, either, DLR has a way of bringing out the kid in everyone... and kids don't stress like adults do!

I feel that way right now too. I've been really busy lately as well as planning our upcoming trip. I went to Reno last weekend, worked Sunday night (got home at 12:30 am) and Monday night at my bar job and M-F at my day job (8-4:30 shift). Needless to say, I'm tired! LOL
Hang in there, try to get some sleep and once you're there you will have a great time! :)

 Love these boards. Sometimes it feels like I have no one to talk to here, bc my hubby works a lot and my son is too young! I am not alone in the pre-trip stress!
@rramstad, holy cow! Now I DEFINITELY do not feel stressed :rotfl: Dealing with that hurdle on vacation must have been hard mentally. But I am glad it did not take the magic away.

My doctor explained that peptobismal has anti bactierial properties so besides just settling your stomache will also help kill off any bad bacteria you may come in contact with so it it does more than just treat symptoms! a very good thing to take travelling anywhere!
I have this going on now too, we leave in 9 days and I have so much to do and am so worried about so many things. I keep telling myself to stop worrying and as long as we have our passports, DL passes, cash and credit cards, and travel health insurance purchased, we are good to go! anything we forget we can buy. It's so much harder when it's a trip like this though, driving from one town to the next, making sure you have hotels booked there and back, we will be in 8 different hotels!! Like anything though, the bigger the pain the bigger the gain right?! lol...

Yay! SO glad to hear you're feeling better!!:goodvibes

Remember to get plenty of rest, pop some extra vit c & don't eat too much junk before your trip. For some reason, vacation planning can be SO much work, especially for us Mommies! And I know that I've been guilty of staying up to late reading this board for tips or grabbing a pizza because I've been too busy packing to make a healthy dinner. So now I make it my priority to take extra good care of myself and my family before we leave so that we can hopefully enjoy our vacay and not get sick!;)

Smiley- I used to be a crazy woman prior to leaving for vacation.:scared1: What really helped me was organization. I now have a designated "Disney binder" and I keep EVERYTHING for our Disney trips in here. It's just a small 3 ring notebook that I "borrowed" from DS and even put those dividers in it. I have a section for To Do, Schedules, Maps, Hotel, Air, Transportation, Coupons, Notes & Misc. This notebook goes with me on our trips and I don't have to worry about losing an important hotel reservation or the confirmation for our rental car- it's all in here. DS especially loves the "Maps" section because I keep all the park maps, hotel maps, road maps etc in here.

I also have a separate "Vacation" notebook for any other trips we take. But since most our vacations are Disney, I have to admit that my other notebook doesn't get much use.

My Disney notebook has really been a lifesaver! I know it sounds so simple and before I used to just keep everything in one folder- but that wasn't well organized and it just got out of hand!:headache: My notebook just stays on my desk and as I'm planning our next trip, or hear a super good tip- I'll add it to my notebook. Since things stay in here from year to year- it makes each trip much easier to plan. For example, a few years ago I found a great packing list on the WDW section of this forum. I reference it all the time and make a copy of my "master" to use when packing for each trip. If I find after the trip that there's something missing from the "master" list, then I just add it in. Like I never had Children's Pepto on the list until just last year...

I also like the "Schedules" section. Its here that I plan which days to do at which parks. When to use MM, what days for parade or fireworks, etc. I will also print off the official schedule from Disney's website once it becomes avail and put it in here. When I've finalized my schedule, I will then type it up and paste it to a 3X5 notecard. Then each day, I will take the notecard with me to the parks so that I can keep track of dining reservations, MM's, park hours etc.

Oh geez....this makes me sound super crazy!:rotfl: But it does really work for me and I can't recommend this idea enough. I'm no longer a nervous wreck while planning our vacations!

@chrissie, that planning does NOT sound crazy! i love it! :goodvibes
I actually want to do the same thing now! Where on the Disneyland website can I see the events for that day. I am guessing entertainment? Then calendar? I will look now. I love to plan because as the saying goes if you fail to plan you plan to fail. Things seem never to go as planned but if you plan you also become prepared which make things go soooo much smoother.

You're definitely never alone with the DisBoards here! :) I went over my schedule last night for the next week, here's my breakdown~

Tonight, going out with friends an hour drive each way (after working all day, going home and doing my nails, showering and getting ready)
Tomorrow, chores at home and my friends' birthday party at night, we might go out
Sunday, wine tasting for the above friends wedding, she needs to buy wine for the reception, Sunday night I have my bar job (dance lesson)
Monday, work 8-4:30, go home, get cleaned up, make dinner for the family, work the bar job that night (dance lesson and movie promo)
Tuesday-Thurs work my 8-4:30 job
Friday night go out with my BFF, luckily this is local
Saturday we leave for DL! LOL
Somewhere in there I have to make shirts with DD, we picked up rhinestone skull & crossbones iron on's that we are going to put on tank tops and we picked up some iron on transfers that we are going to use for custom shirts that DD is designing, these are HM shirts. I thought about doing Mickey tie dye but I just don't think I'll have the time! LOL

I knew if anyone would understand my OCD Disney planning, it would be my fellow DISers!!;)

I can't recommend starting a Disney notebook enough! Here's the link for June at the parks, just play around on the site. I usually end up doing the "multi day planner" with my dates only. Then I print and put this in my notebook. http://disneyland.disney.go.com/calendar/#/default/2012/06

Since Disney only releases a few months schedules at a time, I like to also have the previous years schedule. I use this as my starting point with the understanding that of course not everything will be exactly the same. For example, we are going 1st week of Oct. So somewhere here on these boards (I think I found it in Halloween superthread) there's a link to last years Oct schedule. However, DCA now has extended hours....but it has helped in my planning.;)

Since I have my Disney notebook divided into sections, it makes it super easy to keep track of everything. I have also added a small folder with pockets to certain sections that have smaller items. Like my "Maps" section. So I just hole punched the folder, put it in the "Maps" section and then put my maps in the pocket inside the folder. Oh geez...I really am a bit OCD!!:rotfl:

But let me tell you...when DH is standing at the airport, hounding me about confirmations & flight #'s, I can just flip to the "Air" section. Or when he's going to the check in counter for the car rental, I flip to "Transportation". Want to know what else you need to do prior to leaving...flip to "To Do" which BTW is the very 1st section in my binder. Going to DTD for dinner on your first night, have a coupon for Rainforest Cafe? Flip to "coupons". Made an online order for grocery delivery & scheduled it to arrive an hour after you check into the hotel, well this I put in "Misc". You get my point.:thumbsup2 It's been an invaluable tool for me in my Disney planning. Have fun!!

Pixie- have you tried Zazzle.com for custom shirts? I LOVE this site! Maybe if you don't have time to make them yourself, you have time to order them??

The shirt DS is wearing in my picture of him and Pluto <---- (over there) was made from Zazzle. It says "Prince Charming" and cost under $10!:thumbsup2
