Feeling sad. Another trip postponed

This has been in the making since July 2021.

Due to health (leg) issues with my husband (double amputee) and my mom with colon cancer our trip in November of 2022 and now April 2023 have been cancelled :(
Or rather postponed!

Both times we’ve had the package paid in full and dining reservations (many of them: Space 220, CRT, BOG, Le Cellier, dessert parties, carriage rides, caring for elephants, etc etc…..) made.

It’s a let down! But disney world isn’t going anywhere and we WILL make it!

Currently now either November 2023 or April 2024
Will have to again decide which will be better for us.

If you’ve gone during each, which do you prefer?
Of course I love the idea of the holidays but the extra party ticket adds $$$ and over here in CA at Disneyland we get it all included when we go (fireworks/parades)…

April appeals for better weather and Flower & Garden (which I was really, really looking forward to 😞)

I'm so sorry to hear about the health challenges and postponements. We've been on that rodeo ever since the pandemic began so I understand. I am biased but personally I would hold out until April 2024. I've been at both those times of year and I just prefer spring Disney, Flower & Garden is my favorite festival and Epcot should have fewer walls then with the Moana walk through being open. The Xmas party was okay but I'm more of a Halloween person and prefer that party.

Sorry that you had to postpone. Easter in 2024 is early March 31 so I would go for April and Flower and Garden. Since you can get your holiday fix in Disneyland.

My daughter will have April 15-19 off and we plan to add a week to her vacation (whether thanksgiving or spring break)
So if we choose April it would either be maybe April 5th-15th or April 12th-22nd

Which April would be better?

I agree, with April. My first thought would be Nov with Christmas decorations, but since you already get that.....

Yes we actually do have a trip booked for Disneyland mid November
I’d cancel for WDW, but we will get that Disney Christmas itch scratched if we keep as is and come next April to WDW

According to this crowd calendar the earlier date is better. And April is still cool enough to be tolerable in Florida. I agree with you about the flowers. EPCOT is gorgeous.

If you find yourself thinking Nov again no need to buy a party ticket to enjoy MK Xmas. The decor is there during the day and lit up in the evening. There isn’t a party every single night. You won’t get the parade or holiday fireworks but being a Disneyland vet I don’t think it a big loss.

I’d book them both in Nov and WDW in April if you can and make the call closer in 😝

As a DLR vet the Xmas differences to me…
  • DL is superior in Disneyland park vs MK. MK doesn’t have HMH or IASMH. The park is also so big that it doesn’t feel as Xmasy to me because it’s not possible to pack in as many Xmas decorations at WDW per sq ft as at DL. They have Jingle Cruise but I’m convinced it’s a conspiracy just to get WDW fans to stop complaining about the abysmal state of their holiday ride overlays (it doesn’t lol).
  • The resorts at WDW are amazing at Xmas, especially the deluxes (although I do love CSR’s GDT decor and have not gotten to see the values at the holidays!). They’re done or wrapping up right after Thanksgiving so you can tour many different different resorts- so many it kinda makes CA look sad. WL is jaw dropping, basically GCH on some serious Xmas steroids. GF has the life size Gingerbread House. BC has a life size chocolate carousel. YC has an intricate train. And that’s all in addition to the decor throughout each hotel which is specific to the theme of the hotel!
  • AK and EP Xmas decor. I adore the AK Xmas decor. It’s not as abundant as other parks but it’s very well done, just beautiful. Every country in EP has country specific decor. Festival of the holidays is running if you’re there over Thanksgiving so you still get some fun food booths.
  • Deep down my Disney Holiday Heart will always belong to DL. IASWH at night, icicles on the castle, the understated colorful lanterns throughout Grizzly Falls that make it feel like peace on earth- but I think WDW has some very special things too especially for DL vets.

At the end of the day you cannot go wrong! Flower and Garden at EP is also amazing, nothing like that out here on the west coast! I still kinda feel like I’d book it all in your situation and then if WDW is practical come Nov I’d jump to WDW just in case circumstances change by Spring, but if the time isn’t right I’d pull back to DL and enjoy Spring at WDW.

You’ve painted such a beautiful magical picture. Thank you
