feeling overwhelmed so I just broke down the "jobs" I need to do at home

Maybe you could take the DVC, pictures, and postcard stuff to the Library to work on in your spare time?

I am still confuse as to how much trouble it is to keep track of the DVC? We are members of the DVC and to me DVC membership and keeping track of our points does not involve a great deal of thought or record keeping.

I see some of the same ole gang has showed up to this thread.

There are days when I feel overwhelmed and it's not usually over some significant life event but just stuff that builds up. It's especially tough during the Holiday season when you are adding stuff to that list. I am having a difficult time getting all my normal household stuff done while shopping, baking and wrapping. And DH can't even help me because he is working tons of overtime (18 days of work in a row) so I am even doing some of the things he can't. So this may not seem like a lot to others but it's a lot to me.

IGTD, what is important to you is important to you. You'll get to it eventually. Just take a deep breath and concentrate on one item at a time.

I don't know if it would help or not, but you might try reading the Flylady website, it gives a lot of good organizational tips, and lots of holiday tips to help you get your stuff done!! I know that for me, I can sit and stew and worry more about what needs done than I need to, when I finally get up off my chair and just complete ONE project I feel sooo much better, and somehow that gives me the boost I need to do more of my projects. I think the key is to tackle one thing at a time, take a break after each project, and don't expect too much of yourself...remember that most stuff is just "stuff" and it will still be there after the holidays if you just want to put it off and enjoy your family right now. Good luck!

I thought my post was quite helpful.

I guess some people like to spread hugs and Pixie Dust and others like to look for solutions.

TobysFriend...I thought that was a great multi-tasking suggestion...I'm a big fan of multi-tasking.

I'm with IGTD tho---things can intensify around the holidays. I know between my Christmas tasks, taking my mom to PT, going to funerals...I feel a little overwhelmed myself!

Please, no gang of pixie dust needed....

I'm so sorry about your accident Poohbear :(

Wow, Poohbear. Sorry to hear about your accident...
times like this is why I'm glad my family goes away around the holidays.. and why we don't exchange gifts... the most stress I had this holiday season was figuring out what to get for a couple of secret santas I had.. :D

You hit the nail right on the head, Lucky4me!!!

A big part of the problem is the amount of time spent on the computer instead of what NEEDS to get done -- inordinate amount of threads asking inane questions. That's fine if you have the time, but if you're already feeling stressed? Reduce it and/or eliminate it!;)

Why I'm posting on this thread is beyond me but..... I found that things were much less stressful when I stopped being a perfectionist. If things don't get done, no one seems to care. If I don't bake the cookies, or send out x-mas cards or have that holiday party, no one really cares. Now I do the things that give me pleasure and I don't do what I don't really want to do.

This year I also told my family that I will no longer travel to the ends of the earth to satisfy them and you know what, they comprimised and did things my way. My sister even said that I get to get my way sometimes, because it usually her who gets her way.

It's a control issue also. I have to trust that other people can be in control and that they will make a decision that I can live with. Once you stop being a control freak, life becomes so much easier.

The key to all organization is to write lists.

Lists of what to do, what to buy, where to go next. It works for me!

Writing things down is a great idea, Barb. Even the most of trivial of things seems easier to handle when you've written them down for yourself.

So, you're doing the right thing. :D

Lists are a great way to get organized. I'm not a list taker by nature, so I really have to force myself to do them. And I'm never disappointed, I always seem to get more done when I can check things off my list. :)

Good luck! The holidays are so busy, its hard fitting everything we want to do in.

You should see my Christmas shopping lists, Snoopy.

I have a new system this year. I wrote one list of everyone I had to buy for and what I wanted to buy them. Then, as I bought things, I noted it on my list. Next, I wrote new lists of what I needed to buy yet.

I'm up to 3 pages of these lists, but I'm getting everything done in a timely manner, and I feel like I have everything under control.
