Ok, maybe not so much. :rotfl2:

Last Oct (05) we went to Disneyland. We had a stressful trip. So, in March we surprised the kids with a trip. We kept it a secret as long as we could. We flew there, spent the night (all on little white lies) then told them the truth the first morning. Not only did we want it to be a fun surprise, but also because my when our dd gets excited it all goes to her stomach. She ends up physically ill over things. The trip was a blast!

They know we are going sometime this coming year. We've talked about various times that would be good to go. What they dont know is we are booked!

So this morning dd says " when we go in April......". I said, "do you think we are going in April?". She said no, but I did them March or May might be good, so she was just aiming for the middle. I told her March is so cold, I dont know if we'll do that again. I told her I dont think we'll go in April because of the spring break crowds.

So, guess when we are going? April 25- May 1! I think we'll wait until the day we go so that she doesn't make herself ill.

suprise trips are great!
My DS (10) always manages to get sick right before we go.

One year it was chronic ear infections that led to tubes just a few weeks before the trip. Didn't want to run the risk of ruptured ear drums in flight.

Another year it was appendicitis, recovered just in time to go on the trip.

Other years it's ear aches, cough, sniffles, and temps.

He gets excited and his immune system takes a downhill turn. :confused3

This year has been ok, he had a cough a few weeks ago but fine right now.. knock on wood.. :p

I can totally understand keeping the dates underwraps to keep children healthy and low stressed.

In Dec 2003 she started throwing up a week before the trip. She had no flu symptoms so they thought she had kidney problems. She was fine once we got there. Of course the blood work all came back fine.

Oct. 2005 she had horrible stomach pains. Turned out to be a blockage in her intestines, caused by constipation. Took an MRI, ultra sound and some other tests to figure that out. Thankfully we found out she was fine about 3 days before we left. Poor thing didnt get relief from the problem until the 2nd day at the park! Needless to say, we spent a lot of time in the bathroom that trip.

WOW, I'm so impressed with you folks who can keep a GOOD SECRET so long! I'm good at keeping bad or sad or scary things to myself, but if something is happy news, it kills me not to share it!

Good idea to keep it a secret if it means no one gets sick over it from excitement. I think DSs did so well this last trip because they really didn't know what to expect. Now that they've had a taste, I wonder how it will be for them?

Somebody I met recently was telling me how relatives of hers go to DL every year, and decided not to go for the next few years 'because the kids are bored with it.' SERIOUSLY?! Does that really happen? These are pre-teens; I guess I could see if they were teenagers and really didn't want to be seen with their parents. But bored at DL? I just have no concept of how that can be... I wonder if I can talk DH into testing it out...! :teeth:

It looks like we are going to go to DL April 24-28th. I want to keep the secret from my DD's. I asked them if I should just keep it a secret from them until we acually leave and they both said no way, when we were going? I told them I wasn't sure. I think it would be fun to surprise them, but it doesn't look like they would be very happy about that. Can't decide what to do. :) Have a great time!

Ok, I can't keep a secret and to me part of the fun is the anticipation. for our last trip I told DD about 2 weeks before we left and it worked great, she has time to be excited, but not too much. It also gave her a change to talk about what she wanted to do this time.

I'm 31 years old and if we have something exciting happening and it's approaching, I get sick! I've always been this way. When I was a child, I would get horrible migraines the day of the event. Now, I just get some cold or sore throat or something. We're going to DL next Weds and I have a cold! Go figure.

We surprised our kids in May and it was awesome! We didn't tell them until that morning. I think it is the only secret I have ever kept!

It was so cute. Every Sunday is family day at our house, so we always start out the day by asking "Where do you guys want to go today?" And they all scream "DISNEY!" And DH and I laugh and say, "yeah right...let's go bowling..." or whatever. So this time, when they yelled "DISNEY" we just said, "Ok, hop in the car, we're going to the airport!" They freaked!

Hi Linda
Congrats on your upcoming trip. We are going in Feb (staying at Paradise Pier) and again April 27-29 (Sheraton Park). I am really hoping the spring break crowds are gone and the warm weather is amongst us! I am also hopeful that they will bring back the "Food & Wine" events at CA Adventure, it was a lot of fun last year and the first weekend of events was the last weekend in April. Good luck keeping the trip a secret from the kiddos :)

I am actually thinking of a little surprise trip those exact days too! Well my son's b-day is May 2 also.

As far as getting sick with excitement! That was me as a kid! I would start to throw up every year, right before we'd leave. Gross, but my family always brought something in the car in case I got sick, which I almost always did! As a grown up I have stomach health problem, not related, but very connected to my emotions. Even with excitement I get have problems!

My son is the same way, he had to sing a solo at school on Monday, and Sunday night his stomach was so sick with nerves. He didn't throw up, but almost! It's just the worse when your trying to have fun in Disneyland!

That is great! Why can't someone surprise me when I say lets go to Disneyland? No one ever agrees :sad2:

Is that coal you have under your name? Bad tag Fairy
Gee, I was just trying to help Rosie get a tag, and eatmypixiedust, rosiep and I got coal from the tag fairy... But it was darn funny, and Rosie got her tag after all!

I am horrible at keeping secrets and love to plan our trips as a family so we've never done a surprise trip before, until now. We have a trip planned and leave in 28 days and no one knows yet! Well, DH does, but that's it!

So how do you tell your family? Do you think I can pack without everyone finding out? What do we tell them when we get in the car? I know as soon as they see where we're flying they'll know where we're going. I can't wait!!! Only four weeks and I've had this planned since the end of Oct.:cool1:

Our kids are 10, 8 and 4. We usually go three/four times a year but went to WDW this fall so we haven't been in 16 months.
