I wonder if any of you can give me some advice on a bit of a sore subject at the moment.

Some of you may know that I have had trouble at work with my boss etc, well he has gone on long term sick leave now and we have got a new boss who is much better and speaks to me like I am human, it's really nice!

The only trouble is that our teams have been changed around and I now work with a really nice girl who I am quite good friends with, we get on well as mates and also we seem to get a lot of work done when we get our heads down. She is a level above me so is classed as my line manager, We also have another girl on our team, and although she is a nice person she doesn't actually do alot.
she spends all day on the phone making personal calls, and she isn't even discrete about it, it ,makes me angry as my line manager is away for a month on holiday and I have been left to cover all the work, she has done nothing!!

I have spoken to our department manager and he says that I am not the first person to have commented to him about it and that he will say something to our director, i don't think this is going to happen and the situation is getting worse!

What can I do, bearing in mind that I don't want to look like I am telling tales, it's a very sensitive subject!

any advice welcome, thanks for listening

Gems,

has someone been "assigned" your line manager's duties while they are off poorly?? If so my first port of call would be them. People who take the michael at work has a very de-motivating effect on the team.

Can you "subtley" ask this girl to help you out. For example, something like "I am struggling to complete this task before my deadline. Can you do X, Y & Z in order to help me achieve this?".

I do however think your manager needs to speak to this girl and as necessary deal with the situation, however if they are off sick this may not happen in the near future. (I got a bit confused whether they were off sick or on holiday so sorry if I misunderstood!)

How really annoying for you, you have all my sympathies. It drives me mad when people don't pull their weight at work, as invariably some other poor person (ie you!) has to pick up their work.

Cheers

Karen

I agree try giving them some responsibility and see how it goes.

My manager is off on holiday, I have spoken to the guy who is in charge at the moment and he said that he will sort it out. I hope so as I know that the baloon will go up when my line manager gets back to see that nothing she had left to be done has been done! The only consolation is that I have done everything ....and more that I was supposed to do!!
