I am sure I read somewhere that for $10 you could feed the sharks and sealions.... even the stingrays... is this true?

Our DWS has been canceled and my DD7 is soooo upset. I was thinking this option sounded quite fun. Can anyone give me more info please? Thanks very much. :lovestruc

I think I read you can feed the dolphins too? How much is this please? and do they have certain times?

The times for feeding the dolphins is posted at the entrance to the dolphin area. It is $7.00 per person. You are given fish to feed them. You go in and spend as much time as you want feeding them. It is a very unique experience and our family enjoyed it a lot.

Is this how feeding the dolphins works now? When we went in Spring 2008 you waiting in line to get to the window where they sold trays of fish for about $7 each. . . you bought as many as you wanted, and then you went to feed the dolphins AND you could take as long as you wanted. We learned that you buy as many trays as you think you will want the first time through because when they are gone that is all.

Have they changed it now? You pay $7 and get one tray and that's it?? Curious because we are going next Spring again and feeding the dolphins was probably our very most favorite memory. We LOVED it. . of course dd13 and dd10 are both going to be dolphin trainers and live together in FL ;)

So just wondering how it works now, if it has changed from being able to purchase as many trays as you want or are you now limited??

I loved feeding the stingrays the best. Not sure if you still can, as its been a couple of years since we went, but basically you just bought a tray of little fish, and went and stood around the stingray pool for as long as you like, and hold the fish underwater inbetween you fingers, and the stingray (they have the stingers removed:)) swims over and sucks the fish out of your hand.
It is brilliant, and they are so friendly, and they seem to like being stroked, and feel really smooth, and have kinda cute smiley faces!:lovestruc

We fed the sea lions...it was $5 per tray of fish. It was fun, although you can tell they are totally overfed because the sea lion we were feeding played with the fish instead of actually eating it! You can buy food for the sea lions at any time it seemed.

There are certain times to feed the dolphins but unfortunately we missed it!
:(

I would think if you wanted to buy more than one tray of fish to feed the dolphins, you could. There were four in our family so we just bought 4. We didn't feed the stingrays, the water was dirty and smelled very bad all around the immediate area.

The food for the Stingrays, Seals/Sea Lions, and Sharks are open most of the day and are $5 a tray. With the seals/sea lions and sharks, you just toss the food in - no touching. With the string rays you can feed and touch. The dolphins are $7 a tray and are at scheduled times. I was just there last week and they did one pretty much right at opening and then at 11:45. I don't know how many feedings after that, because we weren't in that area later. You have to buy at least one tray for each person. I'm not sure if they let you buy more or not. When you get to the booth they just ask how many people are in your party. You do have a limited time for feeding, but it is plenty of time.

I'm sure your DD will enjoy the feedings. You also might want to look at the different behind the scenes tours they offer as a replacement for DWS. Its been many years since I've done one, so I don't know what they offer now, but they usually involve getting to pet some sort of animal.

A little run down of my experience there in October (2009)

Sharks - waste of time - throw the fish/squid? into a tank and other fish eat it and the actual couple of sharks in this tank didnt even notice .

Seals - although like the sharks you throw the fish , this was soo amazing - the seals are SMART and will ham it up for your attention for you to throw the fish to them (need some aiming skills!) We did this about 3/4 times as we had so much fun

watch out for the thieving crazy looking birds who lurk around this pool!

Rays - you get to touch - feed by hand. a little scary I thought!!

Dolphins - selected times, got a tray and groups at a time go around the edge of the pool / safety talk - then can touch/feed by hand - we were not given unlimited time - was about 10/15 mins though which was enough time.

We just came back from a vacation in Sea World.

Back in February, they did offer a deal that you could get a tray for the stingrays, tray for the sea lions and a tray for the sharks for $10.

When we went back for Spring Break, this deal was not offered and the trays were $5 a piece. I would imagine it was because it was high season and they don't have to offer deals.

We love feeding the rays, but you have to allow them to swim over your hand for the food.

As someone else previously posted, the sharks is a waste IMO. They are not interested in the food.

The seals and sea lions are cute, but watch those birds!

We do not feed the dolphins because it is just too crowded and we enjoy feeding the rays the most anyway.

Have fun!

We are going in June and I am so looking forward to this. With my DD3 thought will it be hard for her to feed them will we have to pick her up to get her close enough or is the area pretty low?

The wall is fairly large, so no one falls in. It is also angled, so you may need to pick her up.

Thanks. I thought I had read somewhere else that sometimes if you talk to a trainer around that they can help with getting little ones closer to the action?
