Hi Everyone,

We're thinking about renting a condo in WH this coming Feb. I was looking for feedback on the resort itself and specifically, unit #133068 from www.vrbo.com. The title is "5 Star Resort Professionally Decorated Condo Free Wi-FI".

We've never stayed offsite before and I'm a little nervous about sending money to someone I don't know.

How can I verify that they actually own the condo?

Has anyone ever had any trouble renting from www.vrbo.com?

Thanks!

Well, I can't comment on the unit itself or on renting through vrbo, but I can give two thumbs up for WH as a resort. We stayed there this past April, and found the resort clean, the pool and surrounding amenities great, the staff friendly, etc. In fact, I'm headed back at the end of the month for another week! We rented through Florida Sun Vacation Homes and didn't have any problems. Hope this helps!

We are also using Florida Sun Vacation Homes; renting the Treasure Cay Condo this October :) So far I have been pleased with them. I called to talk to them just to ease my mind and the lady was very nice. They sent me an e-mail reminder and even called a few days ago to make sure I remembered to send my last payment and ask if I had any other questions so far :) I can't wait!!

We've used vrbo several times and had no problems. Vrbo is just a listing medium for owners but if people do get scammed I'm sure they would be removed.
When you find out the name of the owners you can check the tax records to see if they do own property in WH. Go to the record search section and put in last name first.

Sometimes if you can't find their names it could be because they are new owners and the records haven't been put online yet. It takes a few months.

We were considering Treasure Cay for our August 2008 trip, but additional family members decided to join us, so a condo will be too small. We are still planning to go through Florida Sun Vacation Homes because they have some nice properties...and some good deals!

Enjoy your trip! Please share your experience (and maybe a few pix) when you return.

...So I did a lot of homework! It took a while. I was able to figure out a couple of folks' last names by their emails (when I asked for pricing and stuff). Then I checked to find they were the owners. We rented from one last Nov, and we're going back to him again this October because we had such a great experience. PM me if you want his contact information / VRBO condo number (his is a 3BR, 2BA too). He was great to work with, even when we had to move our dates a couple of days because we got a cheaper DING!

try windsorhillsrent.com and go the condo section at the bottom of each unit there is a VERIFIED sign this means the webmaster has check out this unit and the owners are who they say they are, i am owner on whr for the last 2 years and have never heard of anyone being scammed.

hope this helps

Can't give feedback on the condo specifically, but we had a great experience at Windsor Hills in March and plan to go back next March. My mother rented a condo there (2 bed) for next March and the owner has been great so far. The website it www.magicalgetaway.net.

We have rented direct from owner (using VRBO) many times in Orlando and elsewhere (just got back from using VRBO for apartments in London, Scotland, and Iceland for the summer) and have never once had even a slight problem.

It is important that you take your time, do your homework. Establish a good rapport with the owner. Try to get feedback form past guests, etc.

Good luck!

hi again Kristie

yes it can be quite daunting sending money to an individual that you have never seen or spoken too and probably the only contact you've had has been e/mails back and forth and is thousands of miles away.

there are other ways of paying which i use regularly is to have our client send deposits/final payments to our Florida based management company the majority of homeowners employ these companies to run and look after there homes, it might be idea to contact the homeowners and explain your concerns and tell them you want to pay through there man/co, i have had clients do this before that where a bit nervy of sending of payment and suggested this to them which they did do and things work out fine.

most payments i now receive from our Americans clients i suggest they pay our m/c it works fine.

allan.
