Does anyone know if any of the restaurants charge a fee for splitting meals? I know that they have this in some of the restaurants in Disneyland, but I couldn't find anything about this for WDW. My husband and I won't be on the dining plan, we just want to split dinners.

Thanks.

We just got back Monday and we shared several meals with no split fee. I do remember hearing that Blue Zoo does charge, but I'm not positive. Many times the food came on 2 plates already split from the kitchen. :)

I split meals with my DD all the time. I have neer been charged and often they split it in the kitchen and bring it on 2 seperate plates.

1) Yes, some eateries do charge a "plate" fee for splitting/sharing (up to $10).
2) These tend to be the better restaurants such as Shula's.

We've never been charged a split fee at WDW but haven't eaten at Shulas or Blue Zoo. We have, however, split meals at Narcoossees and HBD.

I suppose you could just ask for an extra empty plate and split it yourself if you are worried about fees.

WOW, thanks for the info. We are a family of 4 and my wife has a band and one child is Aspergers and if they do not have grilled cheese or ala cart french fries all I can usually get him to eat at a restaurant is bread or rolls. If the WDW restaurants are OK with splitting I may do more sit downs (non buffet/family style) than I planned. We usually go at the less busy times so I will not feel like the restaurants are loosing revenue by us splitting. I always tip like all of us have meals also.

1) If the eatery has a fee, then it doesn't matter who splits the food.
2) The fee covers
. . . dish cleaning (main, salad, bread plate, glassware, etc)
. . . lost revenue by allowing splits
. . . other manpower

NOTE: This is common among better restaurants regardless of location.

I guess at the more upscale places I'll ask first before just in case (I'll probably ask before at all of them). But thanks for sharing everyone. I hope this can save us some money- and save us from not wasting food- I hate that I can't save my leftovers on vacation! :)

I'm sure at all places you can get only fries as a "meal". I know my husband can get those as a side all the time and all sides can be ordered as just a meal. You'd be surprised at what Disney can do by just asking.

Yes I know the CMs at the restaurants are great, they have made grilled cheese sandwiches at several places where they are not on the menu.

WDW restaurants do not charge a fee for splitting meals. My husband and I almost always share as it is way too much food for us. And unlike most other places, Disney will provide an extra plate, and in some cases even split the food for you prior to its arrival at your table. Talk about service!

That's what I always thought too. Seems, though, that some are reporting a feee.

I am thinking that the places that charge a fee to split are not Disney restaurants just restaurants on Disney property. DH and I have never had this problem. Also when we do eat at a restaurant that charges this fee it has always been stated on the menu. In that case I order a side salad as my meal and we still share. This was suggested to us by a waiter once and we have never been charged the fee when we do this. We always tip as if we have both ordered a meal no matter where we eat.

The Orlando Shula's does charge a 'plate sharing' fee which is right on the menu.

I will tell you though that we go to the Shula's in NYC regularly (when we're there) and we split the filet ALL the time. They do not charge a 'plate sharing' fee at that location- which is GREAT for us!

Their filet is 12 oz, and a 6 oz filet is more than enough for me.... especially if I'm trying to save room for their delicious souffle!!

We share entrees all over WDW and off property too- and most of the restaurants don't charge for splitting.

HTH!

1) We also frequent the Shula's in NYC, and the one near LAX.
2) Neither has a plate charge.
3) But, there is so much splitting at Disney, they had to charge.
