DH and I arrive 5 weeks from today staying at the POP during F'D. We paid to upgrade to regular dining plan and have awesome ADR.

Our adult son has had a change in plans and may now be joining us. I have already called and we can add him to our package reservation up to 2 weeks prior to our arrival.

I then spoke to dining reservations and was told that none of our ADR had availability to add him. So then I thought I would just put in our days a d see what was available and there is only 1 that will work for us:(.

Does anyone what the charge is if we downgrade this close to arrival?

Just show up with the extra person. Chances are that you will not be turned away. That will only happen if the restaurant is at full and total capacity for fire codes, which is rare although it does happen occasionally. You may have to wait longer, especially going from 2 persons to 3, but you probably won't be turned away.

There is a $50 change fee for any adjustments to your package that result in a decrease in cost if you are within 45 days of arrival.

There is no 2 week deadline for adding someone to your package. If you make any changes to your package within 2 weeks of arrival (e.g. adding someone) there is an automatic $15 fee whether your total package price goes up or down. Also any costs are due when you add them. The deadline to make changes to the dining plan is 3 days before your arrival, so if you're adding your son to your package and want dining for him, it would have to be done before this 3 day deadline.

I agree that the CMs will do their best to accommodate you at the restaurants and it's unlikely that any restaurant will be at capacity. However, we were at a restaurant which was running so far behind schedule that they were turning away walk ups, extra people on reservations and any party that showed up late.

You still have time so you can check online daily to see if you can get ADRs for 3 (or try for 4 if nothing comes up for 3). People cancel when their plans change so it's a matter of luck if a cancellation re-enters the res system just as you're checking. At least that will ensure that you'll all be seated.

It's my understanding that you don't have to pay the $50 change fee if you're increasing the value of your package. I understand that you're decreasing the value of your dining plan, but you're adding an entire person to the reservation. Surely this would increase the value of your package more than the value of the decrease? If it does, you shouldn't have to pay anything.

For example, we changed our reservation from POR Royal Room to a Garden View room, but then added park hoppers to our tickets. The total cost of the change was $24 to me - so they didn't charge me the change fee. This was about two weeks before we went on our trip.

One other option....you can use your TS credits at CS places (not a great value, but since you're only paying to upgrade, it's not a total loss). So if you do get turned away from your ADRs, you can still eat with the plan or try another restaurant that may have walk-ups available.

I would just take him with you to your ADRs. We had this happen where a family member joined us at the last minute and we weren't able to change the ADRs to add the additional person. We ate at Liberty Tree Tavern, Chef Mickeys, 50's Prime Time, T-Rex, LeCellier, & Ohana. None of them turned us away. They all happily seated our 5th guest. This was during the week before Christmas.
