Just wondering if anyone has recently booked a 1 or 2 bdrm villa at any WDW DVC for mid February? We are closing on a resale and am hoping we'll be able to head to the'World'. Thanks.

We tried booking 2-10 thru 2-17 nothing in the world!:sad1: So we changed to the las tweek and there was plenty. Good Luck

Monday Feb. 19th is President's Day. Many school districts in the NE have the week off as a winter break (started in the 70's to save energy). It is one of the busier times in WDW.

Wow, I didn't know that! Here in NW Ohio we just get the 3 day weekend. Sometime we get a 4 day at MLK, an inservice day but it depends on when the quarter ends. This year we get a Tues-Thurs week.

Some school districts get that whole week off. This year, our school district is off the Friday before and school starts again on the Wednesday after President's Day.

Uh-oh.....my kids only have off Monday 2/19. I just booked Feb 21-26. Didn't realize this was Pres Week :scared1:
Might rethink this now............

I am surpised you were able to get a villa this close. I think the crowds do taper down toward the end of the week. I don't have much to compare but it is busy.

Many DVC members (such as moi in NYC) reserve President's Week 11 months out (or at least very early) because we know for sure our kids are off that entire week and would love to get away from the cold in February.

However, airfare that week from NYC to MCO is astronomical! So, unless the member manages to snag their tickets during one of those 24 hour airfare sales or works up the courage and energy to drive before the 30 day penalty kicks in, they may cancel the trip entirely. We are approaching mid-January so the timing of availability seems logical to me.

We have done this the last few years. Made the reservation in March for Prez Week but held off on actually committing to the trip until we secure the airfare. For people who have make multiple trip to WDW and are use to paying anywhere from $105 (2001/02) to about $175 rd trip/pp, we have a cut off amount for airfare that we are willing to spend, above which we will just cancel the trip.

Driving use to be an option if the airfares didn't drop. After more than 10 long distance drives round trip to FL, without and then with kids, we no longer want to make the drive. Lol. This happened a few years after buying into DVC and always wanting to stay on-site! DH has limited vacation days so we don't want to waste them driving and for trips without him, I would never drive alone with 2 small children.

For Prez Week 2006, I managed to snag airfare during a mid-December weekend sale for around $200/pp. Fares without the sale were over $600/pp.

For Prez Week 2007, I managed to buy my tickets a little earlier - in November for $224/pp on Delta. It's the highest I've paid in a long while but I think it was a decent fare for such a peak season. The times were decent too - there were brief sales around that amount on other airlines but they usually had late, late outbound flight and super early return flights. "Normal" fares for that week over the past year flucuated between $450-$600/pp. I had to check the current fares for my flights (schedule changes) and they were $800-950/pp!!!! :scared:

I imagine a lot of people either drive or cancel about now if they weren't diligent enough about checking fares every day!

I used to live in the North East and they get Winter break usually the 2nd week of Feb, or which ever week includes Presidents day.

They also get a spring break in April sometime 2nd or 3rd week.

North East schools typically stay in school til the last week of June as well.

Believe me Sleepy, I understand about airfare. We fly out of the ROC Airport (the 'Greater Rochester International Airport') long known for high fares. Before Airtran came to town we did not have a daily non-stop to MCO and fares were extremely high.

This year I purchased our flights when the schedules came out for Airtran in the late summer/early fall for $200 rt. :thumbsup2 but now you cant even get some flights. We really love the direct flight especially in the winter. It's too bad the times weren't better.

D'oh! Dang yankees.

We have friday the 16th and monday the 19th off and couldn't figure out what the heck was going on-no AP value hotel availability *at all*!

Hey Lisa - I just noticed from your siggie that you will be at VWL/BWV over Prez Week. We'll be at VWL during that week also! Maybe we'll bump into each other.

After a pretty mild winter, the last 2 days of cold is making me wimpy and wanting to get away to WDW already... all right, I just want to get away to WDW!!! :rolleyes1
