Feb 20, 2011 - Presidents' Week - Mexican Riviera

Wow, I'd be mad too. I suspect the school district will have lots of absences that week. I know around here you can do an independent study if you are going to be gone more than 5 days. I'm not sure if that is a possibility in your school district?

That is horrible! Here in the Metro Atlanta area, we all missed a week of school due to ice, and different counties are making up the time in different ways. My county decided to add on 5 minutes to each day for the rest of the year. Pretty funny, but at least they didn't take their breaks--I'd be mad!

Well at TONIGHT'S Board of Ed meeting, they decided to ELIMINATE President's Week break! The entire vacation week-- GONE! I am livid!

this is really not cool. I would be very upset if we had no notice. Now granted, we don't have snow days here, but still, at this late notice, that is just not right.

Somebody actually asked me if I took out insurance on the trip & to check and see if I could re-coop any money if we canceled-- IN A MILLION YEARS I wouldn't miss this trip because 2 weeks before it the BOE changed their plans & took away our vacation week! Isn't this nuts???

Oh no they did not! I might have gone off on them. After all the planning they think you would actually cancel? well, maybe some would, but I sure wouldn't!

School and their crazy rules. My FIL passed away this fall and we made the trip from California to Virgina. I took the kids out for 5 days, we flew out on a red eye on Sunday night and back on a red eye Friday night. The funeral was on Weds. Anyways, the school would only clear 3 days for a funeral. 3 days when we had to travel across the country! So now, I am apparently a dead beat mom and my kid has unexcused absences on her record.

hey folks, I am, sadly, this geeky. I ran the multi part pdf that nice 1/23 disboarder posted through Acrobat Pro and made it into one file and then I also ran it through the OCR filters so now if you open it you can search on anything (I was irritated I couldn't search for "tea" before ;)

grr it wouldn't let me post so I have to do 5 more post replies. don't get irritated at me it will be up shortly!

ok so it's 'mostly' searchable. shoot - I just realized that the text in the grids was either too small or too fuzzy for the OCR to work right but at least you can search on a whole lot of it!

cheers

Anyone else receive their official notification from DCL that the itinerary has been changed? It was dated 1/28/11 and I received it in the mail today.

That just plain sucks! I can't imagine that many parents were happy with that decision.

Actually, I only know of one other family going away that week! President's Week is one of the busiest travel weeks of the year (according to the airline industry). Which is ANOTHER thing that pi**es me off-- If I opted not to "follow the rules" and just pull him for a week, I could have saved a ton of $ on airfare, too!

Most of my friends totally see MY point-- but they are all happy that the kids aren't home for another week-- just 2 weeks away-- I think we have only been in school something like 14 days since Christmas break ended! I DO get the point... BUT, I don't think it should be allowed.

So now, I am apparently a dead beat mom and my kid has unexcused absences on her record.

Funny thing is-- THIS is the FIRST year I actually followed the rules & booked during the actual vacation week! The "unexcused absenses" here are marked bright red-- they stick out like a sore thumb on the on-line records-- Gavin's records are full of RED!!!

nope. maybe my Principal intercepted it...lol

I haven't received anything about the change from DCL. Thank heavens for the DISboards and all of you!

Dishy24- I feel for you. Two years ago on February break, we took our first DCL cruise with my sister and her family, combined with the first WDW trip for her kids. Their school district had a teachers' strike before the year started and they lost three weeks. The school district decided to make some of it up during February break, and that was announced in September, but we had had our plans set for months before that.

We still went, and my niece had schoolwork to complete while we were gone. She was told she'd have time while sitting by the pool to do it! Our four days in the Parks were commando, so she ended up trying to do it in the car on the way to the port and in the airport. It all worked out, but was frustrating for my sister and her family. As you said, we were trying to do the right thing by going during break, even though it costs a lot more and the crowds are worse!

Good luck!

Thanks so much for doing that! It's really great!

I received an e-mail from my travel agent a week or so after the changes were announced on DIS. Nothing by mail yet, but it would go through the TA first so it would probably be delayed a few days.

I have not gotten anything- thank goodness for DIS! I was able to get the Dolphin Encounter on our extra Cabo day since we couldn't get it on the first day! My TA (sister-in-law) hasn't mentioned anything, but I may have already talked to her about it and so she didn't say anything. I got my docs from her the other day and they still say Mazatlan. She was too busy on the Dream for B2B cruises with a few WDW days- she said it was hectic, but great!!

My crusie docs also still show Mazatlan. I'm very happy to be on these boards so I know what's going on. How stressful it would be to find out this close (or closer) to the cruise!

I read a post that commented about Tea with Alice. It stated that on 7 night cruises you don't have to go to guest services to get tickets, that you are automatically assigned a time. Does anyone have any experience with this? It would be nice to not have to rush to get them.

Started pulling out the summer clothes today...getting excited!!!

here you go:

It's sort of huge (14MB) but will download quickly if you have cable or dsl:

Thank you! So exciting to see what's on deck for all of us. Get it? Hahaha:rotfl:! There's been a lot of changes since we cruised last-- December 2009, even.

What's the change in the teen clubs? Where is the Tweens club? I can't remember--do we have to register them? I registered my 3 1/2 year old, but didn't see a place to do it for our 16 & 14 year old boys when I completed online registration. And is the huge tv screen above the pool no longer called the "Ariel view screen" or whatever?
