Feb.13th(lucky for some) 2010 Eastern Valentines Cruise - The Love Boat Sails Again !

To all our fellow Louisiana Cruisers: Can we have a "Who Dat?" Day? Whoo Hooo!

Who Dat!! We are 3 families skipping out on Mardi Gras for this cruise! All from the Metairie/Kenner area. We are doing the FE exchange just among our 3 families, but looking forward to meeting other DISers! You'll be able to spot our rooms by looking for all of the Saints magnets :woohoo:

Heard on the news today there is a chance of SNOW for S. Louisiana on Friday :confused3

I for one am SO ready for this cruise. Today we have a total of 20 inches of snow on the ground and another 6-8 coming tomorrow. Have I mentioned that I live in CENTRAL VIRGINIA? :confused3

We have a connection in DC on Friday morning !:scared:

Went out to dinner tonight with some friends and just had to order the BAHAMA MAMA they had on the menu. It was good, but I know the one(s) I'll be having on Saturday will be soooo much better!

Barbara -- I got our cruise docs late this afternoon. I was starting to wonder....

We are supposed to get snow in Atlanta on Thurs/Fri. What the heck is going on? We are planning to drive on Fri afternoon/evening and spend the night in Orlando.

Do I really have to pack a sweatshirt and jacket???? Those things take up so much space. I wanted to bring all warm weather clothing.

Joy -- thanks for thinking of me...I came close to needing to borrow it!

Isn't everyone planning to wear a formal gown to dinner every single night? LOL I am obviously kidding! But when you think about it, we do need to bring a lot of clothes and shoes. Even if we don't wear them, we need to have them just in case :)

Kim, so glad to hear that you will be dressing formally. We are , of course, bringing all our fancy gowns, gloves and tiaras.

I hope you left one out to wear until then? Wouldn't want you to go without... how would we recognize you on Saturday?

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I think I packed them all! Don't worry you will be able to pick me out of a crowd! I will be the one with tears in my eyes.......tears of joy to be somewhere there ISN'T snow!

We normally get lucky and they allow us to board in the first group since Jen is in a wheelchair. FYI - Jen's "wheels" look more like a LARGE stroller than wheelchair. So look for us....Jen in her "wheels" that we be loaded down with SO much stuff you will hardy see her :banana: You can also look for the cord to our CRUISE BLENDER hanging out of my luggage.:rotfl2:

We are so excited.

It is almost time for our Disney Cruise.
We are going to WDW prior so it is getting close.
The weather in Orlando looks pretty cold, so that is kind of a bummer. Last time I went to Orlando in Feb we had sunny and 80 degrees. This time looks likr 55 - 60 high and 40 for lows, so pretty cold.

See everyone soon.

Steve

Hi all:

Sinderelli, I just had to tell you that your sacrifice of Mardi Gras for this cruise is noted. We did Mardi Gras in Laffayette last year and had a wonderful time. The people of Laffayette and Louisiana treated us like long lost cousins and couldn't be nicer. And I gained weight on PoBoys and excellent cajun food. Enjoyed Zydeco breakfast in Breau Bridge and visited Tabasco factory. Looking forward to returning another year and look forward to meeting you.

My cruise docs finally arrived in South Dakota this AM  and my mail service will Priority Mail it to me, I should receive it by Thurs. Talk about last minute!!

Pam and I are looking forward to Ladies Luncheon and expect to take part in the gift exchange. We won't tell each other what we got.

The weather here in Orlando is wet and chilly, but at least it is not snowing. Safe travels to you all.

Linda

I feel that the weather might be MY FAULT. The last time we did a cruise in February (6 years ago) it was cool (all right....., I admit it.... cold) and windy. We swore we'd never do the February school vacation week again, and switched to April school vacation week which has always been perfect weather. However, Kelly has a school trip during April this year so here we are back in February, and here we go with not-so-great- weather. :sad2: Sorry everyone!

Our cruise docs arrived late yesterday :cool1: Just another sign that I need to pack :rotfl2:

Snowing again today! Another 10 inches will fall from the sky on Central Virginia. I think this is a test to see if I can really pack SHORTS and FLIP FLOPS when there is 30 inches of snow in my front yard....WELL Mother Nature I CAN! :lmao:

We dug out our van today, cleaned off the TON of SNOW and filled it up with gas. Now all I need to do is fill it up with my FLIP FLOPS, a smile, LOTS of Rum and oh yea my family. :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

I can hear the song......Hey Hey BABY ooo ahh I want to know if you'll be my girl! They always sing that on the Sail away party :dance3:

SEE Everyone in 4 days :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

I am hoping and praying but just don't know what to do. My dad has been in the hospital since 1/29. He has a multitude of health problems. He has been on a real roller coaster this time - one day they talk of discharging him, the next they are thinking ICU. He was progressing steadily and the cardiologist, who I've known for years, told me last week to go ahead with the cruise. Yesterday morning, he looked great. After lunch, he had a sudden and severe downturn and they called the rapid response team (not quite a "code blue") and he stabilized. Cardiologist came for that and afterward told me he was declining far more rapidly than she expected, and she was reversing her recommendation about the cruise and that I probably shouldn't go too far.
I sat with him all night - the nurses were great - offering blankets, tea, snacks, etc. He was pretty stable all night and today DH spent the day with him (he was there for yesterday's events) and said that if he didn't see yesterday with his own eyes, he would never have believed me. Today he is sitting in the chair, eating, drinking, watching tv, and joking around.

I feel so terribly guilty about worrying about my cruise, but his health has been unstable for well over 10 years. If I let "what if something happens" dictate my vacations, we wouldn't go anywhere. I think he'd frankly be PO'd if he knew we cancelled for him. DH and I would get over it, but I hate to do it to the kids. Today they were actually talking about sending him home at the end of the week. Yesterday was more of a don't buy any green bananas kind of day.

Our flights are Thursday morning. If I could change them to Saturday morning I would just to buy some time to make a decision.

I just don't feel that I have a right answer yet - thanks for the vent. Really hope to see you all on Saturday.
Barb - I was singing that song all week!

I am so sorry you are having to work through this :sad1: This happened to a friend of ours a few years ago and it is a very hard decision. With that said....my daughter Jenny (she's cruising with us) is a medically fragile person and I always worry when we leave home, I to am a WHAT IF kind of person. BUT we vacation and take her to all the places she loves and that make her smile. We live for the moment and have no regrets.

Here is my only advice. You have to look in to you heart and do what is RIGHT for you. You have to ask yourself what would your Dad want you to do? If you leave for the cruise and god forbid something happened your dad would know that you loved him and that you and your kids are doing what you loved. To some this might sound odd and not what they think is the right thing to do.....BUT I believe that your dad will be with you NO matter what happens.

Not much help I know...follow your heart!

Does anyone know if their will be anything Mardi Gras related on the cruise or at one of our ports? Thought it would be fun if we got to see a Mardi Gras celebration in the Caribbean.

Any thoughts?

Looking forward to our cruise. Our daughter has 5 bags packed with all her Disney movies, stuffed animals and books. We now have 3 days to try and whittle down to one bag. I am going to be busy the next few days.

See everyone soon,
Judy

Beautifuly said Barb, I second that. Will keep praying for your Dad!!!

I am definitely jealous of all of the snow you guys are getting. I really miss it. But of course if I was there I probably would feel different about it! :rotfl:

Hey TampaFamily where in Tampa are you guys? We are in the Land O Lakes/Wesley Chapel Area. The weather has been a bit gloomy lately.

Hey, we are in the Original Carrollwood area. Looking forward to our 3rd cruise in the last year. First cruise ever was last February and we are hooked. Everyone says Disney is the best and we agree.

We are on deck 7. Hope to see you on the cruise.
Judy

Mygr8kdz ~ My Mom had ovarian cancer and suffered for a long time. She should have died long before she did, and we too, lived with a lot of "should we go here, should we do that" kind of moments. For a while we barely went across the street without buying travel insurance, just in case we had to fly home quickly. In the end we decided that we had to LIVE and our kids had to LIVE, that she knew we loved her very much, and we knew that she wanted us to go on living, not sit by waiting for her to die. We planned that if something happened while we were away, they would simply wait until we got back for the services. A week is not that long to wait (and that would only be if the worst occurred the day we left, otherwise it could only be a few days).

My thoughts are with you as you make this very difficult decision.

Karen
