FB messenger-- getting rid of 'learn more page' on iphone

Ok, so I have NOT installed messenger (after reading bad stuff about it)

But every time I go to FB messages to try and send one, I get the page "Get Started With Messenger" -- with the options to "Learn More" OR "Install".

I don't want either!! So how do I get rid of that page so I can actually message (the old way)?

Don't think you can anymore. You want to message you'll have to download the messenger app. Don't believe everything you hear. The permissions messenger ask for are no different than other apps on you phone.

Fb is changing things so that you cannot access
your inbox messages on your mobile device unless you use the messenger app. It also appears to mean that even if you have the messenger app, you can't send inbox messages from your mobile device to anyone who does not also have messenger.


I looked at the permissions, and they don't really appear to be any different than those of any other app out there.

If you are using your mobile device, you either use Messenger or you don't read/send a message.

I have chosen not to install Messenger due to how creepily invasive the program is, and either wait until I can use my ipad or PC to read/return the message.

If you don't like the permissions required by the messenger app you should really check any others you use and your privacy settings on your phone. Most are just as invasive.

The permissions on FB messenger are pretty much the same as every other app on your phone.

I have seen so many people getting all upset about the camera and microphone portions of the permissions. The same things are on other apps I have on my phone. Even if they wanted to turn on my camera and microphone to watch me, have at it. They can follow me to the grocery store and the gym.

You can still use the messerger tab if you go on the facebook mobile website rather than the app, if you want a way around...

There are companies who are trustworthy and those that are not. FaceBook has proven time and again that you can't trust them. I really wouldn't put it past them to start recording video or audio without asking. THey screw with users all the time without notifying them. Other companies I would trust with those permissions.

You could always use your phone's Internet Browser, and log in on the FB page in a browser window, instead of using the FB app.

guess I'm just not that concerned...I'm not that exciting.

I don't want two separate apps (so silly, why?) so I just use Safari now and deleted the FB app.
