Hi all!

Just starting to plan a holiday to WDW combined with a disney cruise for August of 2008 and wondered what books are your favourite for helping to plan.

I have been to DL 3 times in the last 2 years, but have not been to WDW since 1976 (when I was the kid...). I am having an awful time choosing a hotel! I am hoping that the books might give me some good insight...

Maybe you all have some good insights for hotels as well. I am pretty sure we want to stay at AK with a Savanna view room for part of our trip (we are thinking 10 days in the world and then the 4 nights on the cruise). Any don't miss hotels you think we should check out? It will be (at this point anyways) myself, my husband, my daughter (8) and my son (5).

THanks for any helpful tips!

Carole

Congratulations on your upcoming trip!

For our trips, I've used the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World (current one is 2007) by Bob Sehlinger. I find it easy to read and it covers a lot of material. Not sure how much content there is on the cruiseline as that's not something I've ever looked into.

I also recently ordered the Passporter Walt Disney World Resort: The Unique Travel Guide, Planner, Organizer, Journal, and Keepsake by Jennifer and Dave Marx. I like it for planning and comparing against one another, but if you're only going to buy one book, then I'd recommend the Unofficial Guide.

The web is also invaluable, with boards like this as well as many others.

Best of luck with your plans and your upcoming trip.

We don't use a book - have found all info and more online.

this site and allearsnet have all the info you would ever want. Allears has pictures of all the resorts and rooms and such too.

Thank you both! I know online is an awesome source, but while sitting at the busstop waiting, I can't do that.. so I thought reading the books might be a good solution! ;).

I think I've bought them all! The Birnbaum books (both WDW & DCL) were so helpful. We liked the Frommer (very detailed), the PassPorter, and Disney World with Kids by Wiley. I visit the websites too, but when I need a Disney fix, I need to hold a book in my hands to read!pixiedust:

For our first trip we bought the Birnbaum book for kids which my 2 really enjoyed!

I'm with Jewel99. The Unofficial Guide is a great way to get started but I found the Passporter's coverage of the WDW resorts is a little better. Once I got through those books, I spent most of my time using the on-line sources to get more detailed information on specific questions. In particular, the Allearsnet site is good for seeing pictures of the various WDW resorts.
