Hello everyone!
I will be at WDW in 2 weeks and trying to plan where (and what) we will be eating at WDW. It will be me and my DF and we are both vegetarians-but we do eat dairy products.
I was just wondering if anyone has any favorite non-meat/fish lunch or dinner meals at WDW? What is it and where can I get it at?
Thanks!!:p

There is a book about vegetarian restaurants in WDW. I don't remember the title, but I do own it, and it's a very good book. I'll dig it up tonight if I get a chance. I'm not a vegetarian, but I won the book in a contest. :D

Just to clarify: you don't eat fish? It's a bit hard to tell from your message. In any case, for vegetarian meals, it's probably better to have a big meal (I'd recommend lunch over dinner) at a sit-down restaurant, and a snack later in the day. Italian restaurants are usually good bets, since pasta and pizza can be done very well without meat. Most (if not all) locations in WDW will have at least one vegetarian entree, but these are more dependable bets, IMHO. Unless noted, these are sit-down restaurants.

Magic Kingdom:
Tony's Town Square- Italian
El Pirata y el Perico-fast food, tex-mex style

Epcot:
The Mexican fast-food place has lots of bean-based dishes. I'm sure the sit-down restaurant also does, but I've never been there, so I'm not sure
Boulangerie Patisserie: French pavillion, fast food. While the special here is definitely the to-die-for desserts, they do have some sandwiches and quiche.
Pasta Piazza Ristorante: In Future World. Fast-food Italian. Not great, but not bad either
Pure and Simple: in the Wonders of Life Pavillion, fast food. A lot (for WDW, relatively ;)) of healthy selections.
Check out the Sunshine Season Food Fair at the Land Pavillion. Go for a late lunch, as it's very crowded during prime lunch hours.

MGM Studios:
Mama Melrose's- Italian. Pizzas and pastas.
ABC Commissary: American (kind of California style) fast food
Toy Story Pizza Planet: fast food pizza. WDW fast-food pizza isn't usually that good at all, but it's better here than anywhere else, I think

Animal Kingdom:
Pizzafari- Italian fast-food

**Just a side note. I find it ironic that so many of the food places in the Asia and Africa areas of the park have so many meat-based food places, pretending it's authentic food, when so much of the diets of people in (the real, non-WDW) Asia and Africa are often vegetarian, and meat is not served every day!

Resorts and other outside of the parks locations:
California Grill at the Contemporary-great place!
Wolfgang Puck-the restaurant (Downtown Disney West Side) and the express location (at the Marketplace)
Boardwalk Bakery: some sandwiches available, I think. Not worth a trip to the Boardwalk just for this, but if you're going there anyway...

For a light lunch, I was so impressed with the Couscous Salad at Tangierine Cafe.
It had a good portion of coucous, hummus and 1/2 a roll and was only $1.98!!
I deemed it the deal of the "world".

My top picks from last week would be the dinner at Boma, the vegetable stir-fry at Teppanyaki at Epcot, the Coral Reef sandwich at Columbia Harbor House at the MK....and my number one pick...(drum roll please)....the vegetarian stuffed pepper over mashed potatoes at 50's Prime Time Cafe:bounce: :bounce:

Grains, peas and veggies (with tofu) at Jiko at AKL. VERY yummy, and more than enough to split with someone.

Veggie chili, and/or Coral Reef Sandwich at Columbia Harbour House in MK.

Veggie sampler at Tangierine Cafe in epcot. Also Sunshine Food Fair has several options.

Noodle Bowl at Artist Point.

Salads and Natural Burger at Rainforest Cafe.

It's been a while, but I remember a fabulous coconut tofu dish at Hollywood Brown Derby in MGM.

I eat dairy, so some of my other favorites would not work for you.

I forgot one!

The "Yasai" vegetable entree at Teppanyaki in Japan at epcot. :)

We went the first week of this month. I am vegetarian and my DH prefers to eat that way. Here are our faves:

BOMA!!!!! For the dinner buffet. My DH has declared that he wants to eat here for every trip we ever take to WDW in the future. #1 all the way.

Beaches and Cream : heavy on the dairy here, great shakes, sundaes. They have a veggie burger that is fine (not very flavorful) but it will do. Wheat bun is a plus, onion rings.

Sci-Fi Theater (MGM) : I loved their spinach/artichoke dip appetizer (I ate it as my entree), good shakes here as well. The kids had pasta and fries.

Counter service in the Land (Epcot): Veggie-wrap, good and big for about $6, comes with chips

Plaza Pav. entrance to tomorrow land (MK): individual pizzas for about $6, come with a good size side salad. Plain cheeze, but tasty and hot!

San Angel Inn, Mexico (Epcot): Not on the menu, you have to ask. We were there for dinner and most items ran about $20. I asked for a vegetarian plate and was handed the "veggie menu". Had two items on it. I ordered the $12 combo plate and it was sooo delicious! The other item was cheaper, might have been a salad. Get the combo plate, yum!!!! Fresh chips and salsa to the table. Sweetest servers in WDW

CRT (MK): for dinner, nothing veggie on the menu but they brought me a good veggie pasta (loads of veggies!) for about $17. Huge plate full. I should have shared with the kids. Instead I ordered them pasta with garlic and olive oil and corn (also not on the menu, I asked). My DD ate up her entire plate full then worked on mine, she and I didn't get very far, had to waste some, got too full. This meal was so-so for me but my DH really enjoyed his chicken dish and he liked the atmoshpere here.
I forgot to mention my side salad here was delicious.

The Brown Derby (MGM): for lunch, Had the delicious tofu dish, only veggie thing on the menu but similiar to something I had at the California Grill a few years back. Very good. Salad was good and their grapefruit cake is my very favorite.

California Grill: for dinner, BEST SALAD in WDW - yum! I had the ravioli starter to save room for dessert. The hazelnut pyramid was too rich, just OK. I should have ordered the pumpkin pesto pasta instead. Best view here if you get a window seat. My fave rest. in WDW.

If you want to do a character breakfast, Chef Mickey's had better veggie choices than Donalds (AK). Meat in everything at Donald's , I had to wait for them to make me a special omelette. I didn't get to eat at Chef Mickey's because I wasn't feeling good that day :( . My DH had thirds of this veggie-quiche type dish, he just raved.......next time for me. I have enjoyed the 1900 Park Fare breakfast in years past but we didn't get to do it this time.

Hope this helps.

Heidi

If you're looking for something simple, we really like the veggie wrap sandwiches at the Sunshine Food Fair located in the Land pavilion at Epcot!

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet but Kona Cafe at the Polynesian has an Asian Noodle Bowl dish that you can order Vegan style that is VERY good!!

I had dinner with a vegetarian friend at Jiko in the AKL. There was a roasted vegetable dinner on the menu that she ordered and she raved over it. The restaurant is lovely and looks out on a waterfall, so it is a nice place to have a relaxing meal after a busy day. They do take PS.

You can always ask for a vegable platter and Disney is great for them. We once went to Hoop De Doo and the chef was so nice make a special vegable dish just for us and it was good.

Alice42,

Some vegetarian favorites of mine around WDW are:

At Animal Kingdom:
Tusker House Restaurant in Africa makes a great grilled vegetable sandwich on foccacia; it is served with grapes

At EPCOT:
The vegetarian couscous in Morocco's Marrakesh restaurant is great.

Le Cellier has recently changed their vegetarian lunch/dinner entree to Oven-Roasted Beets and Lentils; it's served on a bed of mixed greens. It's yummy!

At Disney-MGM Studios:

I enjoyed the numerous vegetarian choices on Hollywood and Vine's buffet menu.

At Magic Kingdom:

No vegetarian meal (I have yet tried) at MK has been spectacular. There are veggie burgers available on most of the fast food menus. All the veggie burgers I have tried around WDW have been Boca brand. They imitate meat, so they may not be to your taste.

Port Orleans Riverside Resort:

Boatwright's:

The Crazy Cajun French Toast (Banana-Stuffed French Toast topped with strawberry-banana sauce) is the best vegetarian breakfast I have tried at WDW. I requested that my order have fresh fruit as a side instead of bacon or sausage, and that wasn't a problem.

I also enjoyed Boatwright's for dinner. There were two vegetarian options on the dinner menu the evening we dined there. One choice was a vegetarian jambalaya and the other was an autumn vegetable topped linquine with a light garlic sauce. I chose the pasta and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Polynesian Resort:

Kona Cafe:

I enjoy Kona Cafe for both breakfast and lunch (we haven't tried dinner there yet). There are multiple vegetarian options on the menu. Fresh fruit is also plentiful. I enjoy the Tonga Toast (banana stuffed french toast, without a topping) for breakfast, and the cheese stuffed raviolis for lunch.

Good luck planning! :)

I'm (definitely! :) ) not a vegetarian, but I think I could happily eat the Goat Cheese Ravioli w/ Sundried Tomatoes at the California Grill every night for at least a week! CG also has a designated "vegetarian entree" every day that's a little more uptown than the usual fare. Last time I ate there with my aunt (also not a veggiesaurus, but just doesn't eat meat very often), she had whatever it was that day (Vegetarian Extravaganza or something similarly silly sounding) and pronounced it the best veggie meal she'd ever had.

at alfredo's in world showcase, i had the chef's special, does not seem to be on the menu daily as it changes, and it was risotto w/wild mushrooms. it was deicious!! would have it again in a heart beat!:p

Olivia's at OKW has a wonderful penne pasta, with fresh spinach, sun dried tomatoes and Italian cheeses :) Available for lunch or dinner.

The Brown Derby has a great tofu dish with noodles. Wonderful flavor.
Alfredos in Epcot has pasta options.
We also love Pepper Market over at CSR - hubby loves the mexican station. Its our favorite food court type place at WDW - everything made how you want.

Hubby is vegetarian and we have never had trouble finding great food.
Even on a trip with took with family in 2000. Some places are more accomadating than others. Brown Derby was wonderful at making everyone happy, so was Alfredos.
Check out the menus online. They are a great help and ask when making PS Ressies if you still have a concern. They have guided me more than once.
