A few of my co-workers were talking about it this morning.. what was your favorite subject in Elementary/Middle/High School? Did your favorite subject lead you to major in something in particular in college?

My favorite subject was history. I majored in history for awhile, then decided to go to Elementary Ed. Then, I fell in love with geography but wasn't willing to switch that late in the game. I wish I had stuck with history or gone with geography. Now, I'm certified to teach secondary social studies and am excited to make the switch when a job opportunity opens although I love my 3rd graders!

So, just curious, what was your favorite subject?

Mostly my favorite subject in middle and high school was Reading/Language Arts, although it depended on the teacher. Although in 9th grade I really liked Geometry, too, and in 11th grade I really liked Us History (I didn't like my 11th grade English teacher). In 12th grade, I think it was a tie between English and Physics. Even though I liked English, I only took Math and Science honors and AP classes. Go figure. :confused3

I eventually got a BA in English Lit and a BS in Computer Science. I currently work as a computer programmer, but I got into the company I work for by first being a technical writer (software manual writer).

I've always been a History/Social Studies person. All my favorite teachers and mentors in my life were History & Civics teachers. I ended up getting my degree in Political Science because of the way these teachers inspired me.

So, naturally, that's why I'm an IT Tech. :rotfl:

Art...hands down. My degree is in Illustration, but I am old school.

Oddly enough, my favorite subject in school was music. I did originally go to college for music, but dropped out.

One of my least favorite subjects was English (even though I was an avid reader, for some reason the classes were awful for me). I ended up getting my bachelors in English and masters in secondary ed English/language arts.

Where did they go wrong with me??? :lmao:

Social Studies (including Geography, Civics, History) was always my favorite class in school.

I was supposed to be "gifted" in language, but I REALLY did not like English class because I took any markings on my compositions as a personal insult. However, it seems that once I reached college English, it all seemed to "click" for me, and I really started loving it.

All of that to end up with a Masters in Education, (Curriculum and Instruction).

Same as you! that's why I am a middle school social studies teacher:cool1:

Favorite subject in elementary school and middle school was recess. Seriously, we moved around so much I hated school. I guess if I had to pick one it would be Math, I'm pretty good at basic algebra.

In HS my favorite subjects were photography and jewelry. I spent just about all of my free time in Photography class. I took both for 2 years as electives.

the one class I wish I had taken was American Sign Language. My parents forced me to take Spanish because that's what I had to take in 7th and 8th.

My favorite subject in school was history. I used to like english but once i got into high school I switched to history. I think it had something to do with the teachers.
Thats why I'm currently working to become a history teacher

Art throughout my entire school career, and psychology in high school as well.

In college, I was an Interior Design major with a Psychology minor! I loved psych, but never wanted it as a career.

OK, science and math nerd here.

Favorite subject was advanced biology.

Second was something we called "senior math", which was a bit of a lot of things, including pre-calculus, symbolic logic, advanced algebra, and some basic computer programming (this was in the late 70's).

English forever and Shakespeare, especially. I remember getting upset when I took every Shakespeare class my college offered and I couldn't find anymore!!! :sad2:

Always English and history. I practically maxed out on English and history classes in high school. My journalism classes counted toward English credits and I think I took 4 out of the 5 history classes offered so I graduated with 2 extra English classes and an extra history class. Oh I also liked biology. I had a 96 average in honors bio as a junior and was all set to take AP as a senior but my AP English class was at the same time and the school wouldn't let me change into a different section of AP English so I took Human Anatomy instead (and graduated with an extra science class, too - and an extra math class because I took Pre-Calc... and an extra Spanish class... and 2 extra language credits because I took Latin, too...)

I'm currently in my last semester of college as a journalism major and I want to be a magazine or web editor. So I guess we can officially go with English.

I honestly don't remember. I think I liked any class that my friends were in.:laughing:

I majored in English, so I guess I would have to pick that.

Science, all kinds. Earth science, biology, chemistry. Loved it then, love it now.:thumbsup2

Math and got my degree in math. Took 4 levels of Calculus to teach 2nd grade. LOL

Latin, way back in the early 70's. I still use it, too. It is amazing how much I remember when I'm deciphering a new word or medical term.

my strength was foreign languages, and i absolutely loved learning them. i was one of 2 people to ever take all 3 languages my high school offered (funnily enough, the other person was also in my grade. she ended up being salutatorian). i took AP psychology in my senior year and loved it. i was a psychology major, but now i'm a human development major. very similar, but with some differences that make me like my department far more. everyone else thinks i should be majoring in languages, but... no, not for me.
