Favorite Scary Movies...again...

Yep that's the movie. Check out where I'm from. :teeth:
:rotfl:

If you liked that move, for more reasons that geography, I bet you'd like the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I know it got bad reviews, but don't they all? What do people expect from a hasher/slasher type movie.

I was thinking about renting Texas Chainsaw. I'm going to have to make a list of movies to rent this month. lol

As you seem to like the older movies, have you seen The Changeling w/ George C. Scott? Very creepy.

Saw is very good, I would not consider it a slasher movie, it does have some gore. The sequel comes out this month, so you might want to check it out in case you want to see the 2nd.

I am a horror movie guru, I have been a horror movie addict since I was 5 and saw The Texas Chainsaw Massacre at the drive in theater.

I like the oldies from the 1950's such as "I Married a Monster from Outer Space" made in the late 50s. The title sounds hokey but it is actually a surprisingly good movie. It gets some good reviews on amazon.com, too.

I also like both the original and the newer versions of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers".

How about The Birds? I wouldn't call it scary but it's definitely creepy. Or It? Another idea is Evil Dead but only because Bruce Campbell is so cool.

There's also the original version of The Fog which is a big favorite of mine and of course the remake that's coming out soon. The Fog didn't need a remake but I'll check it out anyway. It's SO hard to find a good horror movie!

The Ring and many other Japanese horror movies just scare the living daylights out of me. The Ring, Grudge, and a few others I can think of.. i nearly can't even watch them.

It really has to do with the way they are shot though... fear through ambient sounds... it's just chilling.

Army of Darkness rocks! :rockband:
I agree but I thought that it might be too funny to be on the list. Aw heck, see it anyway. ;)

Has anyone ever seen the movie, "Burnt Offerings" with Bette Davis? It's a late 70's-early 80's movie about people who move into a beautiful old home and also take care of the original homeowners' mother--only to realize that The House has plans of it's own...... :scared:

It's full of corny over-acting, major cliche's and non-intended humorous moments, but it scares the bejeepers out of me every time I see it! It's worth seeing just for the creeps I get from the Evil Hearse Driver! :scared1:

DH loves the Evil Dead movies and got me watching them.

Check out SUSPERIA (1976)
by Director Dario Argento
It's an Italian film from and DH and I rented it b/c it has been ranked like #3 on numerous "scariest movies" lists. It's definately one of those that you find disturbing so I guess that counts as scary :rotfl2:

I actually can't put my feet down by my bed thanks to 'Pet Semetary' (when the cute little boy cuts the guy's feet....UGH). I'm looking forward to all the horror movie marathons on tv soon!! :scared1:

Is that the one with the pool scene where the kid is trapped in the pool and it's like it's covered in glass or something and he's trying frantically to get out? I know I've seen this movie but I've seen so many I get them confused.

I am a fan of the older movies -- everything always seems scarier and creepier to me when less it shown -- a reason why Hitchcock is my favorite moviemaker ever.

Anyway, I've added The Changeling, Pet Sematary (a sucker for Stephen King flicks even though most are bad, IMO), and The Shining to my list...I can't believe I've never seen The Shining!

I also can't believe how many of the modern horror flicks that people have mentioned that I have actually seen. I didn't think I watched that many horror flicks, but I was wrong.

I'm adding things to my Netflix list left and right! Thanks!

Hitchcock was the best!

I am totally shocked that you have not seen The Shining, a real classic IMO. Jack Nicholson's performance is over the top. It's an eerie movie from start to finish. Make sure to get the original and not the made-for-tv junk that came out a couple of years ago.

If you do not mind sub-titles, Asian horror movies are very creepy. Try The Eye and Ju-On: The Grudge (American The Grudge was based on this movie) and Audition for starters. (A lot of people like the Japanese original of The Ring but I personally thought the American version was better but you may like it.)

Believe me...I'm shocked, too. I think part of the reason I've always avoided it is because it's always touted as being so good...Many times when I see a 'classic' movie that is 'so good', I'm inevitably disappointed (RE: The Godfather trilogy/2001:A Space Odyssey/Citizen Kane/Casablanca are perfect examples). Not that I'll hate the flick (just as I don't hate any of the aforementioned movies), but I'll always be a little disappointed. Nevertheless, The Shining is on the list...I'll be watching it this year.
