I dropped my camera last week and it cracked open on the top. We were able to snap it back together but I'm scared it might break while we are in the parks and I'd be crushed.

What's your favorite point and shoot camera now?

We have a DSLR that we also bring, but don't always carry it with us there.

Any suggestions? Thanks!!

I have the Canon PowerShot SX510. I think its considered a mini bridge camera. Its amazing! I bought it instead of a DSLR to see if photography was something that interested me before spending the big bucks on DSLR.
Its bigger than a pocket sized point and shoot, but has a nice strap and it comfy to wear. I usually carry it in a camera bag instead of a purse. It has some manual settings so if you have some knowledge of photography it would be fun. I'm trying to learn but mostly use the auto features. The picture quality is significantly better than the p&s that I had before (at least it is to my untrained eye!).

my husband just bought a Sony Nex and it looks great - and no doubt will be easier to travel with/carry around because its so much smaller and compact than his DSLR

I bought a canon sx280hs last year and left my dslr at home (it's also a canon) because it just was beginning to feel like "work" with my camera (I do portrait photography here at home). It took very respectable pics for a point and shoot. That being said, I will be taking my dslr his time. But te little p&s is going too! Some days I want to travel light. :)

I just purchased a Sony Nex 5 T and love it!!!!!! It is easy to carry, good in low lights, takes awesome action shots. the Wifi is cool too, I can upload pics to my iPhone very quickly and share via text or social media.

I love my Sony RX100 II it is easy to use, small and takes amazing low light pictures I have yet to even touch the flash. I have used the easy shoot modes and only a couple times I have used the manual mode but I was mostly just playing around. It also processes the photos fast I am never have to wait for the photo to load before taking another picture. I could go on and on about it. I got mine at Costco and it came with the hard case and some extra's.

I second the Sony RX100- any one. I've loved my Fuji x10 (portrait), but my brother brought his RX100II (landscape) to the park and it blew my pics out of the water.

SONY RX100 ver 1, 2, or 3. I have version 1 and you can leave your DSLR at home a lot of the time. Amazing camera. I like version 1 due to the low price... Version 3 does have a nicer lens.

We've had two different Olympus P&S cameras and love them! Super easy to use and the photos always turn out great (colours, sharpness, the zoom on it, stability stuff). Plus it has a built-in video camera too which comes in handy on our trips.

Another vote for the Sony RX100.
It doesn't have a lot of zoom, but in every other respect it is a fantastic camera.

We're fond of the Panasonic Lumix at the moment. DH has the DMC-TZ30 as his only digital camera which is a nice all-rounder, and I have the teeny tiny DCM-XS1, which is so small it actually fits in the front pocket of my DSLR case. Given I don't like the camera in my phone that's my official travel/adventure camera.

I got my wife a Powershot 340hs - While if it was for my use more than hers I would opt for a RX100. She just needed something better than a phone and with some zoom. I have a 70D, those RX100's look awesome. That being said the MkIII is like 800$, so for that price I would expect good performance.

The 340hs that I got my wife is a decent little camera, the WiFi is nice to have and it shoots HD video and has a designated button for my wife to send photos to her phone for uploading, and it was only 175$

And while having a fixed WA lens I usually always toss my Hero3 Black in my pocket when we go anywhere, I love that thing.

we like canon powershots i have two but don't remember the number they both work good. one lasted 5 years till i dropped it then it started to fizzle out, it still works but we use the other one more now.

I've never been disappointed with a Sony Cybershot. I will say that I don't ever get the entry level/cheapest model. I always go for the mid-grade camera so that shots aren't blurry. Very important at Disney.

We have the Nikon Coolpix waterproof camera. I like it because it can literally be soaked and still work, so you don't have to worry about on wet rides or if it rains. It takes pretty darn good pictures too. :)

What a great thread and just what I need, too. I had a Canon Powershot A550 that worked wonderfully for many years until I dropped it. I had tried the Canon A1400 as a replacement. I think the particular camera I got was just defective because it was sent out for repair twice by Best Buy and kept having the same issues with always being busy, taking dark pictures, and sometimes not taking any pictures. I was so grateful to have gotten my money back especially as it was a gift. I am looking for a basic P/S. I am not too camera techy at all and just want something reliable and easy to use. I know this might make my search harder but I would prefer having a choice of color. My dad right now has the Canon Elph 115 and it works pretty good, just sometimes also has the same issue as my 1400 with being busy or darker pictures. I definitely would love to try and take some pictures at the CP this year and of the Christmas decorations so a camera that did do well in lower, and of course sunnier light, too, would be wonderful. Thanks everyone.
