Any ideas except Katz's? Going in on a Sunday so we are hoping to grab lunch. Nothing fancy ...way too many choices! I was thinking of going to Little Italy, I heard La Mela was great but the reviews are iffy.

Any suggestions for the Lower East Side area (going to Tenement museum)

Thanks!

Margaret

Not a full restaurant, but we went here after leaving Tennement Museum:

Chinatown's there too- another trip we went to Big Wing Wong's, though I could not even tell you where it was, lol.

An FYI for Tennement Museum- make sure you buy your tickets online ahead of time. We got there around noon time and most of the tours (all appropriate for children- one involves a baby dying and I didn't want to do that!) were sold out. They do have a couple movies you can watch not on a tour and a self guided tour of the surrounding streets.

is a family favorite- They do have cats that wander around - (grosses out some people I guess) but for me it means no mice! Food is yummy and cheap!

and I've been wanting to try this

oh and what about my all time new favorite

in fact I may need to head in there this weekend just for that one!

Definitely the clinton street bakery (full name might be baking company) - great pancakes, but watch the very long weekend line. Right in the LES. You should also walk to the donut plant to get donuts.

I totally agree with the Doughnut Plant suggestion! I would skip Clinton Street Baking Company, though - the food is amazing, but weekend waits are upwards of 90 minutes.

In Little Italy, skip the Mulberry Street tourist traps and go straight to Lombardi's on Spring Street. They claim to be America's oldest pizzeria, and the pizza is very, very good. Or if you're in the mood for a sandwich, try Torrisi Italian Specialties at 250 Mulberry Street. Their turkey sandwich is to die for. This is their menu: http://piginahat.com/lunch.php

I have eaten here and the food is pretty good but pricey for what you get. The drawback is the limited seating. There are two small counter sections that seat 3-4 people and a bench outside. Everything is priced individually so a large piece of fish and fries runs about $16.
