A sister thread to my sauce thread. How about sharing meatball recipes. I don't measure- I use a meatloaf mix ( ground beef, ground pork & ground veal). I add seasoned bread crumbs, eggs and parmesan cheese. I either add them to my pot of sauce or cook in the oven , any other recipes out there???

This is my MIL meatball recipe and everyone loves them:

From the recipe in the other thread I start to simmer the sauce for a while then:

Put 2 ladels of sauce that has been cooking into a bowl and let it cool (she says this is the secret to the meatballs). Then add to it 2 lb. ground beef, 2 eggs, Italian flavored bread crumbs, locatelli cheese, parlsey flakes, garlic powder, salt and pepper, if it is too loose, add more bread crumbs. With wet hands make meatballs and brown in oil before cooking in the sauce.

I know this is cheating but these are sooo good,
Buy a box of Italian meatballs form M&M Meat shop
Put them in the crock pot and add 2 jars of chilli sauce(or one large one) and a small jar of grape jelly.
Cook for 2-3 hours and enjoy. These are also a great appetizer at a party, equally as good on noodles or mashed potatoes.

1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup Progresso Italian Style bread crumbs
2 Tbsp onion, finely chopped or 1 Tbsp dried onion flakes
3/4 tsp salt
1 lb ground chuck

Mix well. Shape into ping-pong size balls. Bake at 375° for 25-30 minutes. Drain on paper towels. Add to your favorite sauce.

Thanks for sharing I really enjoy meatballs and its something I can always get my son to eat. These ne recipes will come in handy.

Sandy-

I used your meatball recipe tonight, and it was so easy! My husband was so shocked that I got the recipe from the DIS boards - "They're not going to be Mickey shapped meatballs, right?"

But he loved them...thanks for passing that along!
Mel

P.S.- I totally cheated and used premade sauce...whole thing took about 15 minutes! BRILLIANT!

Mel ~ Glad you liked my meatball recipe. I always cheat and use Ragu sauce. I figure I do enough work on the meatballs for one meal. :teeth: The truth is I've tried to make sauce so many times and never liked it as well as I like Ragu. Sometimes if I'm in a hurry I use a cookie dough scoop to make the meatballs. They come out flat on the bottom, but who cares.

These are always a huge hit at our parties. We host a lot of get togethers and these are becoming a frequent request.

i don't measure either, but here's a rough guide for my plain Jane but great meatballs...
ground beef
egg or two
bread crumbs (usually the heel from a bread loaf)
ketchup( just a bit)
mix all together, put under broiler until browned, then simmer in pasta sauce(i am partial to Prego) i had never heard of anyone frying meatballs until just recenlty.... maybe it's becasue i'm not Italian..lol!

I used Twigs recipe last Saturday. Only I cooked in oil, then baked in oven. Poured warmed honey BBQ sauce on them. Made over 100 to take to a party for 20. None left!!!!!

Am making them again for another get together this weekend.
