I know that Disney is good about accommodating diet restrictions and I've already talked to a couple of chefs about my need to eat gluten free. But I thought I'd ask others here who have celiac to name their favorite places for GF dining. We'll be there the week after Easter.

thanks
richard

Liberty Tree Tavern - you can pretty much have the same as everybody else - with a few exceptions.

Fresh - they will make pancakes anyway that you want them.** If you are going to eat here make sure that they know how to make them. The first time we ate here they would make GF pancakes anyway that we wanted them. We went back a few days later and the head chef was absent and they couldn't replicate them.

Crystal Palace - love it

Cape May Cafe - they will make waffles, and pancakes with GF syrup

Tony's Town Tavern - LOVE THIS ONE. GF pasta, GF rolls and GF meatballs. AWESOME

Hi Richard - we're planning to be there the same time you are - my husband also has celiac sprue. He tries to really stick to the diet, however does "cheat" now and again on vacation. Our last visit to WDW was a great dining experience for him - we stayed at the Beach Club Resort and they made the best wheat free/gluten free muffins for him - he gets tired of the rice bread, so this was a real treat for him! We've notified all the restaurants that we have PS for about his dietary restrictions, and they've been very helpful. We have to request to speak with the chef upon arrival at each restaurant, and the chef will explain what can and cannot be eaten, and will provide substitutes if needed. During our last visit he ate very well - he basically chose meats without gravies, fish, salads, veggies, and fruit. His favorite place to eat was the Yachtman Steak House, but we also ate at The Royal Palace, the Living Seas, ESPN Club, Liberty Tree Tavern, and several other places. He never felt deprived. I know someone else who has Celiac and ate at The Hollywood & Vine in MGM - the chef personally walked him down the buffet and pointed out the foods to avoid. Hope this is helpful to you. Enjoy your trip!!

Thanks for the help. I've been to Disney once before but wasn't diagnosed with CD at the time, although I think I had it then. I'm not very sensitive -- I suspect I could eat a sandwich with little or no discomfort -- but in almost three years I've never cheated (although I have made mistakes) because CD almost killed me.

Every place I've talked to has been very helpful. I was impressed that there's even a chef to talk with at the food court at Pop Century, which is where we're staying. They'll even make GF pancakes, muffins, waffles, brownies, or pizza there.

Husband and son celiac, serious, must have PERFECT restrictions.
Our favorite, extremely helpful rest. was Boma at AK. We also had no probs at Crystal Palace or Prime Time. This month we are scheduled to eat at Boma, Bluezoo, and breakfast and dinner at WL. I'm at work so I forget the names. I call the rest. 7 days before and speak directly w the chef. They are knowledgeable about the gluten-free diet.
Have fun. I was surprised to see another w celiac. Don't know any others.

Thanks, Keokagal. There's a bunch of us out here. I work at a large university and have met a half dozen here. Several others in the city where I live. I've heard good things about Boma but also thought I read it's hard to get a PS.

I just called last nite and got a PS for 2 for 7:30pm Apr 23 (I think!). I got every rest. time I requested. It could be all my ressies were for only 2 this year. My daughter will be w her softball team so hubbie and I are on our own a few times.
BTW, the wine list is lovely. Goats Do Roam is a tasty red from Africa (and of course wine is GF!)
Enjoy

Hi Richard --

Have been diagnosed celiac for 17 years and a DVC member since
2001. First I must say to you - never cheat. The longer you are glutenfree the more sensitive you become and you don't want to have to deal with a serious reaction while on vacation.

I have been pleasantly surprised with my experience at WDW.
I eat "clean" and don't fool around with sauces, etc. I have been
to the Hoopdedoo (sp.?) twice - called and spoke to chef and had
a great meal including rolls which were wonderful. I have also eaten at the Living Seas, Chrystal Palace, Thanksgiving at Wilderness and many different buffets - there is always something there if you are careful.

We also used points in Vermont at the Equinox and I called the
dining room there to ask about gluten free. Our server that evening told me that at the meeting before they open the chef told them that a gluten free person was coming to dinner and just what I could have. That was totally unexpected and made the evening a
real treat.

I have found WDW to be very helpful with our diet - I have been extremely hesitant to travel because of it but the food world is aware of our needs and I find they are helpful if we ask.

Have a great trip. We are spending a couple of day there in May and then having a Magical Gathering for 32 family members in August.

Thank you to Keokagal about the California Grille - we plan to eat
there in August and I was happy to read about Boma. I wanted to
eat at AK Boma and now I know I will.

Thanks for starting this thread!!!! Kay

The chef at Boma took my husband and me on a personal tour of the DOZENS of dishes and pointed out all that were GF. There were many. Several people gathered around as they thought we were involved in a special backstage tour! Again have fun all.
