Hello, all! Tomorrow is my birthday & DH and I took the day off! We never do this for our birthdays. We are having a children-free adult day at Disneyland! :yay::cool1::woohoo::hyper:

I made lunch reservations for Carthay Circle Restaurant and made a request for a private room. Here's to hoping for pixie dust! :wizard:

I've been looking at their menu on allears.net and I'm having trouble deciding. What has your experience been with the following items? Positive & negative feedback is welcome. :thumbsup2

1) Definitely getting the biscuits!
2) Not sure about the duck wings (which I've heard is yummy) OR the Fritto misto (fried calamari)
3) Shrimp tempura?
4) Sustainable fish (except I don't like polenta)?
5) Ultimate beef sandwich (for DH)?
6) Angus burger (for DH)?
7) Chocolate crème Brulee tart?
8) Caramel chocolate turnover w/marshmallow & popcorn ice cream?

TIA! :hippie:

My dd had the burger last week and said it was delicious. She also had the chocolate brûlée tart and it was really good. Sort of like chocolate mousse in a cake shell with a sugar topping that's been caramelized. It was more like a mousse cake than a traditional brûlée. .

We had the raviolis. It was part of the WOC package. Don't know if that is still a choice, but they were good. Also had the lemon grass soup and it was VERY good.

Happy birthday pepe3penelope!! Hope you and your DH have a blast today!!

We ate at CC for dinner, so our options were different, but everything we had was delicious. Our waiter was super helpful, so I recommend maybe asking your waiter or waitress about the options you are considering. Hope you love the biscuits :goodvibes

Can't wait to hear all about your special day =)

What a nice birthday tradition. I would surely do this if I lived in SoCal. I've had the fritto misto, but is was back in July when when my family enjoyed a grazing lunch at Carthay Circle. We sat in the lounge and had drinks and several appetizers rather than do a whole dining room lunch. It was quite nice alternative (a bit cheaper) and our lounge waiter was wonderful. Anyway back to the fritto misto - I liked it very much. Nicely fried with light crisp batter (not greasy or heavy) and a nice mix of calamari and vegetables. Even though it is well prepared, any fritto misto is going to be filling b/c it is basically a plate of fried stuff. So I think it works better if you are sharing it as an appetizer with a good number of people. Otherwise in my experience too filling for one person as an appetizer before an entree.

I am probably too late with this post, but I wanted to let you know that Carthay Circle was our favorite meal during our 4 day trip to DL.

Everything we ordered was fantastic.

The shrimp tempura was great- two members of my family got this

I had the sustainable fish even though I don't like polenta either- again, yummy

The chocolate crème brulee tart- AWESOME!

Let us know how your meal was.

:goodvibes

We ordered for apps the fried biscuits and duck wings. DH is ordering for his entree the blue cobia ceviche and I'm getting the fritto misto as the entree. Not sure yet about the dessert!

Thank for the responses!

OMG!!! Our food was amazing!!! We loved it!

We weren't sure what to do about the dessert and decided to get the chocolate turnover with house marshmallow and popcorn ice cream. We kept thinking... popcorn ice cream? Sounds weird popcorn::.... it was the best thing on the plate!!! TOTALLY RECOMMEND THAT DISH!!! :cool1:

Because it was my birthday, she comp'd the dessert! :cheer2:pixiedust:

Yay!!! So happy you had a wonderful meal with some pixie dust!! Did you get the private dining room you requested? Hope you had an amazing birthday :)

Thank you! Sadly, we did NOT get the private room. I had made the request quite a long time ago and I even confirmed the request the day before wIth Disney dining. When I checked in at the podium, they did see it in my request. She sat us at a table next to the patio area & one of the newsboys shows was loudly playing outside. I asked to go to a quieter area and we were reseated a couple minutes later. She sat us at a table that had a chair on one side with a soft bench on the other side. I thought it was because we were only a table of 2. There were 4 empty booths. Then throughout our meal other parties were only for two & ALL of them were placed in the booth. :confused3

I'm still working on finishing last month's TR and then I'll update yesterday's TR.

Funny tidbit...DH is hosting his basketball fantasy draft tonight at our house so he's home cleaning & setting up. I took the kids over but DL was crazy & we only rode the Casey Jr train then headed to DCA. DS is napping in the stroller & DD is reading books in the store's toy section. I'm going to add today's visit to yesterday's TR! :thumbsup2 :lmao:

I love the biscuits there. I found a recipe on how to make them, I haven't done it yet. It might just be easier/more fun to go back to the restaurant.

Where did you find that recipe? I've been looking for one. Will you share? :)

I really thought the food was so amazing at Carthay Circle. It was wonderful to have an adult and quiet meal that didn't revolve around ensuring mac n cheese, grilled cheese, or pizza were on the menu! :rotfl2::rotfl:

The fried biscuits and popcorn ice cream that accompanied the chocolate turnover were UNFORGETTABLE!!! YUMMMMMYYYY!

When we did the Carthay Circle restaurant tour beforehand, our guide said they're similar to hush puppies. He was really spot on with that description. One day DH and I will go back! :thumbsup2

I can't remember what website I got it from, I copied and pasted it into a document in my recipe folder and didn't include where it was from. But here it is from whatever source I got it from:

Carthay Circle House Biscuits

Yield: 16 rolls (serves 4)

Ingredients

For the bread:

Starter

1/2 cup warm water

1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast

1/2 cup whole wheat flour

Dough

6 tablespoons warm water

1 1/2 tablespoons honey

1 teaspoon active dry yeast

2 heaping tablespoons vegetable shortening, such as Crisco

2 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1/2 tablespoon salt

Starter

For the Filling:

4 slices bacon, cooked crispy and trimmed

8 oz Cracker Barrel Sharp White Cheddar, grated

12 slices nacho jalapeño peppers

1/4 cup jalapeño juice

Bacon grease from cooked bacon

For the Butter:

1 stick salted butter, softened

1/4 cup Smucker's Simply Fruit, Apricot

1 tablespoon honey

Oh, and you'll need a deep fryer filled with vegetable oil and a 1 1/2 tablespoon cookie scoop...

To make the starter, combine the warm water and yeast in a bowl until yeast has fully dissolved. Add the flour. Cover and let rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.

While the starter is working, you can make your filling. Grate the cheese and set that aside in a large bowl; cook the bacon until extra crispy, trimming the excess fat when cool. Let the bacon grease cool down a bit while you combine the bacon, jalapeño slices and jalapeño juice in the food processor . Pulse until you have a rather chunky paste.

Combine this mixture with the cheese and slightly cooled bacon grease. You don't have to go crazy with the bacon grease, just whatever sort of slops out of the pan is fine. Once your mixture is evenly coated with all the goodies, pop it in the fridge - it'll be easier to work with later.
You probably still have time to make your apricot honey butter before your starter's done, so throw all those ingredients in a bowl and blend them up with your mixer. It's really important that all of these ingredients be at room temperature when you try to mix them, or the butter will try to bead up on you. You want nice, fluffy butter.
