Favorite First Night Meal?

I'm planning a trip for June 2005 for my BF and I. Our first day will most likely consist of waking early, running about thru airports, traveling to the resort, checking-in, etc. I figure we'll be too tired to fully appreciate a park that day.
I'd rather unwind and have a nice meal and relax for our first official day!
Where does everyone like to eat their first night? I was thinking a buffet would be nice, since we'll probably be hungry. (I've come to expect no food from the airlines!) However, the boards have also shown me that I can special order some nice desserts at the GF. (Cinderella's slipper, Dalmation bones, etc.) And a ride aboard the monorail would be nice too!

What's your favorite (non-park) restaurant for your first night?

:love2: We're going to WDW!

Combine a GREAT Dinner at 'Ohana with a ride on monorail to GF to walk off some dinner, then back onto monorail to CR for dessert, wine & wishes view!!!!

Now thats a night to remember!

Our first night tradition is Chef Mickey's. We love it there, it puts us in the Disney spirit and being at the CR just feels like "Disney" to us!! We usually follow dinner with a ride on the monorail loop, sometimes getting off and exploring the other resorts. Last trip, we had UPH, so we went into the MK for Spectro and Wishes after dinner at Chef Mickey's. It was WONDERFUL!!!!

Can't help with the buffet, but Narcoosee's is always a nice first night spot. Also great if you want to see the fireworks.

We arrive at Orlando at 4:00PM and have 6:30 ressies for Ohanas!! Usually our first meal is at the castle, but this time, we will be arriving so late and chose Ohanas for its festive spirit!

Our first night tradition is also Chef Mickey's. It is nice to see Mickey and the gang right off the bat. Food is pretty good too, dessert is the best part.

If you want the special desserts at GF and a buffet, go to 1900 Park Faire. Good food and you get to see Cinderella, Prince Charming, the mice and usually the Fairy Godmother is in the lobby.

Another vote here for Chef Mickey's...it really gets you in the Disney spirit. ::yes::

We enjoy going to Downtown Disney for dinner at Portobello Yacht Club. Afterwards, we go to the Disney Store to pick up autograph books, pens, and souveneirs. After working up a bit of an appetite shopping we'll go over to Ghriadelli and get a hot fudge sundae to eat outside by the lake. Sometimes they have a kids dance party going on and our girls LOVE that (they have almost as much fun as DH and I!). Then, if we time it right, we can get back to the resort (GF) in time to see the fireworks. I LOVE our first night at WDW! (Only 9 more months and we'll be there!!)

My family loves going to 1900 Park Fare on our first night. Great food, great service, and characters. What more could you want. Also the strawberry soup is strange, but good. Then we finish the night off with going to DTD. It has been a pretty good kick off to our vacation.

All these suggestions are so great! It's nice to see so many different ways people celebrate their first night :)

I'm really leaning toward a GF restaurant, Narcoossee's with Wishes just sounds delicous!

But then perhaps some time at DTD would be fun afterwards. Shopping, P.I. or even just a movie at AMC. Oh, just thinking of the posiblities has me so excited!

What else does everyone do their first night?

This is what my dbf and I will be doing for our first night.... Cali grill ( hope to catch wishes while dining) then a monorail drink tour. We'll take the monorail to the Tambu lounge at the Poly and have a drink or 2 and then over the Mizner's at the GF.

Well my first night at disney usually starts at like 8. We take off from NY at 3pm on a friday (Get out of work at 1 during the summers) We land about 6 - by the time we get the luggage - go to the hotel - check in and yada yada its like 8 PM. We then hop a bus to downtown disney and enjoy shopping and a dinner at Rainforest Cafe. Then on for some Ice Cream at Chriadeli's (Spelt wrong - I know)

That is my idea of a nice first night - by the time we arive at WDW we are tired from a day of travel and work. LOL!

I know I voted for CM above but just wanted to add that this year we'll be having dinner at Boma the night we arrive...might be our new favourite arrival night dinner. ;) We're easy to please...as long as we're having dinner in WDW, we're happy. ::yes::

Oh, the monorail drink tour sounds fun!! I think we might enjoy just such a event :)

Boma interests me, but it sounds quite exotic. Anyone else feel uneasy trying it? Should we give it a shot or do picky eaters have a hard time finding things they like? I've seen the menu, but words on a menu and what the food looks like are so different!

The suggestions are great! I love hearing the different ways to ease into Disney!!

My lady and i went to wdw last sept{it was my 1st time,her10th} and on our 1st night we went to dtd and shopped and had some drinks. we loved bongos, good atmpsphere, good drinks. By the end of the evening i was so tired,my feet never hurt so bad in my life but it was well worth it...We are going again this sept and we can hardly wait

I really enjoy Chef Mickeys for the first night. It's a lot of fun. There is a lounge nearby where you can relax while you wait for the table.

Depending on where you are staying, and food/$ choices, there are 3 options for DH & I...

1. (Favorite) Is take a bus to TTC and ride the monirail around - -drinks perhaps - and going to California Grill. The VIEW is to die for! Even if you don't get a window seat, there is an outdoor area overlooking MK at sunset... The food is good, but pretty expensive. They do have sushi and some great appetizers. I've never made it to dessert.

2. Go to Downtown DIisney and eat at Wolfgang Pucks. We try to eat outside near the "lake" before dark. It's not very "Disney," but the food is awesome! Then there are so many shops and places to look around...

3. The Boardwalk Area - We're looking forward to trying Bluezoo in the Dolphin Hotel. There are other great restaurants in the hotels and along the boardwalk. IF you are not tired, there is a lot of nightlife activity.

The best thing about the 1st night at WDW is that there is SO much to do outside of the parks and 1st night is a great time to experience this part of WDW!

Although I love the monorail drink tour and CM suggestions. I think Boma is a great way to start your trip. AKL is breathtaking. You feel like your on safari in Africa. Boma has fantastic food and plenty of variety. Some African inspired dishes and also "regular" dishes. They have 5 different soups each night that are incredible and the dessert table is outstanding. After dinner you can go around the firepit and listen to an African guide tell folktales. Then you can go to another guide who will give you night vision glasses to view the wildlife. And they will explain about the animals and their homeland. Its like visiting another world. We love it there.

We were at WDW last week and had dinner our first night at Narcoosees. The food was fantastic and we had a great table overlooking the lagoon. I would definitely recommend it!

We've done O'Hana's as our first night meal and it was great! This year we are going to try Chef Mickey's for our first night meal partly because of all the glowing reviews here on the DIS.
