Been a reader of disboards for a few years but just now set up to post and reply.
We are members at AKL and are now looking to add on but wish to choose a resort that when not traveling with young ones, we could enjoy it down the road.
We are considering the following for adult trip enjoyment and in this order.
1. HHI
2. BWV
3. VWL

Thanks for all help suggesting in great resorts when not having kids in attendence!

Of the 3, the one that would be hardest to get in in the late spring/summer season is HHI. If you think that you would enjoy a beach/golf vacation at that time of the year, go with HHI.

I love reading TR of people who are at HHI during this time of the year, it sounds like a great place, with special events going on at the resort. We visited HHI in late October last year, and I know that once we're retired we hope to get down there more often. Doc reported on seeing a manatee, dolphins and sea turtles go there to nest. That sounds like a great place to visit if you enjoy nature. There is also bird watching. I'm interested in visiting the historical islands in the area, as well as Savannah and Charleston. If a HHI add on is required for us to get in that's what we'll do, once we're retired.

I sometimes travel with family (including kids) and sometimes with adult friends. I've stayed at many of the different resorts, including HHI, but my favorite for adults only was OKW. With the proximity to DTD and the relaxed atmosphere, it's a great place to kick back.

However, since my home resort is BWV, we've also stayed there with just adults. Love the ability to walk to Epcot and DHS, as well as hanging out on the BW. The BW Bakery is a great place to stop in the morning.

I liked HHI, but it doesn't really feel like Disney. I think I would like it better if the beach was right outside my villa (instead of pine trees), but I didn't really feel like I had readily available dining and entertainment options unless I jumped in the car and drove somewhere.

VWL was just ok. Also did not feel like Disney to me and we weren't excited about looking out the window into pine trees. I want to be able to sit on my balcony and watch the world go by.

So, to narrow it down, I would choose OKW or BWV for myself. You probably need to stay a few days at all of your choices to get the "feel" of the resort and then choose the one that is best for you.

Good luck!

Terri

Sure BWV is fine for adults, but a LOT of kids stay there too, and the long hallways make it a problem for some of us. My preference is OKW. Besides the lovely grounds and huge accommodations, it has some of the most relaxing views in all of Disney...bar none. Of course, your own home resort of AKV isn't bad for that either, but there again there are the endless hallways.

Some would argue BWV has better night time club entertainment, but OKW's proximaty to DTD smashes that argument. We find OKW to be much quieter and have such easy access to the DTD area without the noise of that area or the noise of the Boardwalk.

I agree that HH is a wonderful resort and having the home booking advantage there is important if you want to visit in the summer. It is very laid back and the island itself is chock full of restaurants and a large excellent beach.

As far as WDW resorts, I think SSR or OKW would be perfect. The crowds at the hotel style resorts will be more noticeable and both SSR and OKW have good access to DTD shopping and dining. Of course, these are also the easiest to book without the home resort advantage so it isn't critical to own there to stay there. I'm not sure what you would define as a good resort for adults. :confused3

Yes to all the above, thanks for the reply, our main reason for HHI being first is that we can drive vs. fly, making a summer booking with11 mo. advantage, and just the R&R factor. I did read the post on the loggerhead by Doc. Very interesting for sure. Historical and Savannah value is also good for this choice.
We will be at HHI for first time on June-20-24 and really are anxious. Being the frontrunner for a second "home", if we really enjoy it, it may seal the buy in. We really are not concerned about price, MF's, etc. But like the fact of 11 mo. priority snd drive to.

Based on your reply and the one previous, we will add OKW to the list of 3, If it is nice and relaxed, that is high on our reasons along with the fact that you mentioned location of it in relation to DTD. Price at resale is nice as well right now! Would you know if all rooms are planned for the refurbishment?

For us,defining a good resort for adult only trips would include:
R&R right at the resort with minimal importance on the parks, and then access to restaurants or activites other than parks, as in biking, jog trails, maybe some water rentals.

A resort you could stay on grounds without "almost" never leaving during your trip duration.

Thanks for your views!

when my wife and I travel alone, which is most of the time, we prefer to have a sofa for reading and watching TV. OKW, as you probably know has two queen beds in the studio. We won't use the extra points for a 1 BR in order to have a sofa. As a result, our OKW stays are usually short and combined with another resort or two.

Our favorite adults only vacation resort is BWV, it is close to Epcot for drinking around the world and we love to go to Jellyrolls. We love the ability to hit the bars and walk back to our room.

sssteele: We use the extra points for the sofa--and the washer/dryer:):)

But we do think OKW generally is pretty adult and quiet. Unless you are at the pool (which is full of kids at almost every resort) you really don't notice noise or kids at OKW.

Exactly why we have BWV listed second behin HHI. Great to get to Epcot and getting around the world to just kick a day around without waiting in line for a ride. Also like the night access at BWV as well.
If HHI trip does not turn out as we hope this week, BWV will most likely be the next choice for an add on for adult advantage trips.....with the exception of OKW which others in the thread have mentioned!

Yes, all will be refurbished, and should be completed sometime early next year.

We like BWV for adult trips with lots of opportunity for activity and dining at the BW and Epcot and also BC and YC and Swan and Dolphin. For a quieter getaway OKW one bedrooms are grand but you rarely need the home booking advantage. We got OKW points just for booking GVs. If we lived driving distance from HHI we would buy there to have booking priority for summer one bedrooms. We already have a lot of points at BWV. Good luck!

One point to consider: If you are buying points at a resort you are looking for an adults only trip, you may wish to consider buying at BWV. You can usually get a villa at OKW or SSR pretty easily at the 7-month mark so staying at those resorts should be easy. Getting in at BWV at 7-months may be more difficult so you may consider buying at BWV for the ability to book at 11 months. Buy at the resort you wish to stay at the most so you have this advantage and take the risk at the 7-month mark with all the others.

We did adults only last year at SSR and really enjoyed it. I believe SSR or OKW would be great for this as well, although I did enjoy having the sofa in the studio at SSR.

BWV or BCV-walk to EPCOT and BW for drinks/dining and Food & Wine-nothing comes close IMO-or our now older kids.

I think BLT is a great adult resort. It has the feel of a NYC boutique hote. Not much Disney theming. The TTWL is great for a late night nightcap.
