what is your favorite Disney dessert party? We are going for the first time in October and want to do 1. Any thoughts on the pirate dessert cruise?

Star Wars hands down, and not just because we love Star Wars. It has the best selection of food and adult beverages. You eat indoors, but no seats technically. I think it provides the best view of the show, except for the garden seating Happily Ever After with the new projections. You couldn't get me to do the MK one again, with the poor quality food/desserts and really grumpy patrons and servers. Illuminations was good early on, but it's completely different now. We have done Star Wars 3 times now.

We did Pirates and Pals when Wishes was still showing and it was cute, but if your goal is to actually see Happily Ever After, that is not a good way to do it. With the extent of the projections on the castle for HEA, the fireworks really take a backseat, IMHO. We just did the HEA dessert party with Plaza Garden viewing and thought it was a great way to see the show. If you do this one, I actually recommend going a little later (about 30 minutes after the party starts). You will most likely be seated on the mid-mezzanine level of the terrace (which isn't as chaotic as the upper level) and the crowds at the buffet should have quieted down by then. I thought the desserts were quite good.

I've never done the Star Wars party, so I can't comment on that. The show is wonderful if you are a Star Wars fan. If you aren't a fan, I think a lot of it will be lost on you.

We did Pirates & Pals on 8/26. Overall, it was great. However, you cannot see the castle (and thus HEA projections at all). The boat sits where the castle view is totally, 100% obscured by the train station. Good view of fireworks and clear soundtrack on the boat. There are plenty of good castle views from the water and after the party I asked why we couldn't get a better view and was told there is too much traffic where the views are good. But other than that, I liked everything about that cruise. The pre-party desserts were plentiful (including all you can eat mickey ice cream bars) and the hosts were funny. My kids loved meeting Mr. Smee and Captain Hook (and were so-so on Peter Pan). Two thumbs up, with the caveat that you won't see the castle projections at all.

Star Wars.

We've also done a wishes party in MK and the pirate cruise. Pirate cruise was very fun; but for HEA I'd do the MK plaza view dessert party.

But favorite? Star Wars.

It definitely depends on where the boat is "parked." When we went last November we had a decent view of the castle; however, I believe you still wouldn't be able to see most of the projections. It is a lot of fun though!

World of Color dessert party, you get great SEATS for the show, we did it in July of this year. 2nd was the DL Fantasmic dessert party (not sure if they started that back up again). At WDW, I liked Star wars one, but not nearly as much as the DL ones that both give you reserved seating for the actual shows.

100% agree. The MK Garden View party has a great spot for viewing the fireworks, but it was chaotic and absolutely packed with people -- in addition to the underwhelming desserts. Plus, they ran out of things like chocolate strawberries and the sparkling cider halfway through and never replenished them. I asked, and they said that when they run out of those premium items, they're out and they don't refill.

Star Wars, on the other hand, has fantastic ambience in Launch Bay, with Stormtroopers occasionally coming through (and they used to have the Jawas, but don't know if they still do the party or not). The food is far superior, is continually replenished, and includes alcoholic drinks. And, you can go visit the Star Wars characters during the party with very short lines if you want to. The viewing area is the best that you can get for Star Wars, too.
