Favorite counter service?

I agree with most of the above, but wanted to add my family always makes a stop at the Corndog Castle in DCA for a quick lunch at least once on every trip.

Unfortunately, there's not fantastic place like Flame Tree BBQ where you get a great meal and great ambience with a view of Everest. I'll agree with the Village Hause - it's NOT like it's WDW counterpart. It actually has good variety with cozy feeling.

Don't miss out on Flo's V8. It' pricier than most Counter Service but still has some good food.

We like Plaza Inn(Disneyland) for the Fried Chicken(We like to sit outside best), and Flo's(DCA)for the Turkey Dinner(but everything else is good there, as well, and we like to sit on the patio which overlooks radiator Springs Racers---so fun!):)

Another vote for both of these!

We love the Bengal BBQ and the French Quarter (the food and the atmosphere is the sell - love the vibe in that section of the park).

Our favourite for lunch or dinner is Tangaroa Terrace at the DLH. It's nice and quiet inside and there is seating outside too. You order on a touch screen and pick up drinks and other prepackaged thinks yourself.

Earl of Sandwich is good too, but when we were there last summer, there was nowhere to sit because it was so busy.

We also love the fried chicken at Plaza Inn and the sundaes at Golden Horseshoe.

Heya,

For Disneyland it's Bengal BBQ. Everything is tasty, is relatively quick, and 3 skewers split between two people is generally enough to get you going again.

For California Adventure, Paradise Garden Grill. It's better than any of the sketchy burgers in the park, there is usually live entertainment nearby, and the value is relatively good (by park standards).

Have fun!

Yep I agree, they are my two faves as well.

Some of our favorites/must -do's typically are :

Plaza Inn - Best Fried Chicken ever. You can request all white meat too!

Hungry Bear - Love their burgers and hear good things about the fried green tomato sandwich too. Must try to cupcake there too.

Flo's ( DCA) - We make a point to eat here at least once every trip and we are AP holders. The turkey dinner is delicious as well as the roast beef. The milkshakes are also amazing.

Bengal BBQ - I know this is more of a snack place but the kebabs here are very yummy. They will also put the sauce on the side if you prefer.

Let's say you are in or near DCA...and you are tired of the crowds, tired of noise/ stimulation, and/or just plain tired...I suggest you check out Whitewater Snacks. It's located at the Grand Californian, but don't let that deter you. If you are over by Grizzly River, just head through the "private" entrance/exit into GCH, hang a quick left, and you are at the restaurant. Here are the reasons we like it:

- It never seems to be crowded. I will admit that I haven't been there in the summer, so maybe it's different then? But anytime I've gone (especially for dinner), it's pretty much a ghost town.

- There's a variety to choose from. You can get cooked-to-order food, or you can "grab" something pre-prepared from the case (salads, sandwiches, fruit, yogurt, desserts). Since they are part of the hotel, they also have "grocery" type items (boxes of cereal, bags of bagels, frozen dinners, etc.)...along with toasters and microwaves for you to use. I've never done that, but always thought it was a good option for a quick breakfast.

- They bring you your food. It's really nice to place your order at the register, and then just go sit and relax while they cook. Remember, you are tired! :-)

- You get refills on your drinks. Always a plus!

I will say that it seems to take a bit longer to get your food here than at some of counter service places in the parks. Everything is cooked to order (again, not very crowded, so they can't cook ahead of time), and I think this takes a bit longer. But if you aren't in a hurry...pull up a chair or relax in a booth, enjoy the quiet and calm, refill your drink a few times, and enjoy your leisurely meal!

I was utterly in heaven this year for GF options at WDW and on our Disney Magic. I'm hoping DLR can continue the trend next year! We got GF Organic pizza at Pizza Planet (they usually heat up an Amy's, but that was fine for us! It looked better than every one elses.) We got GF chicken tenders, Mac n Cheese, Brownies, Cookies and french fries at Liberty in USA, and incredible beet and goat cheese salads or eggplant with spaghetti squash or fresh grilled tilapia on slaw and even GF beer all at EP's Urban Farm.

So any GF suggestions for DLR service? I used to just figure that I would have to suffer on vacation. This is the first time I have been able, not only to just survive, but to physically and emotionally thrive with all the incredible food options! I can't even begin to describe our unbelievable experience at Brown Derby! :worship: :cloud9:

I'm always interested how many people pick Bengal BBQ as CS. I liked the food, but the wait was very long and it wasn't nearly enough food to fill up the four of us, and two of us are young children. We ended up getting a whole other meal from another CS restaurant, so that lunch ended up being quite costly. For me, Bengal BBQ is a snack, not a meal. But it is quite tasty. I do agree on that point.

I just wanted to let the OP know because I was quite disappointed by the portion sizes since it had been recommended as a lunch spot.

I agree...Bengal BBQ is very tasty, but the portions are not large. The bacon wrapped asparagus skewer has about six pieces and the chicken and beef skewers have three pieces per skewer. They are yummy, but it takes several to fill a person up!
